focusdriver
Whilst driving home yesterday I noticed that there is a whooshing noise coming from the engine area, about the time when the turbo kicks in - also there is a loss of power. I'm taking it to my local garage tomorrow and wanted some idea of what it is/how much it would cost before I see him. I'm guessing the turbo will need replacing, and I thought it would be £100 or so but looking on here it can be a lot more.. My 55 plate 1.8 TDCi has done 125K miles. Mike77
It might not be as extreme as that, it sounds like you may just have a split pipe, or one that has popped off completely. The woosh noise your hearing it the turbo trying to build pressure. So try checking all the turbo related pipework first.

Thanks for that Mike, I've looked under the engine cover, I don't know where the turbo even is. Any pointers..? Thanks
Mike77
The turbo sits behind the engine block on the right hand side, it is quite tight in there, but if your not confident enough to start pulling pipes off, pop it into a garage and ask them to remove and inspect all turbo related pipework, as its the only way to check properly. focusdriver
Turns out it was the hose after all - £100 with fitting. Everything A OK now.
