1.8 Petrol Engine Racing When Accelerating

I have a problem where the engine seems to 'race' when accelerating when coming out of a roundabout, or turning, or climbing a hill. it takes a few seconds before the power reaches the wheels. it doesnt happen all the time. it feels a bit like an automatic gearbox when changing down to overtake. the clutch seems to be fine.

any ideas much appreciated

Thanks for the advice, is it possible to adjust the clutch or is it likely to need replacing?

obviously clutch wear depends on use but theres only 86000 on the clock. and it feels ok, and stalls the engine when tested. is there anything else it could be?

if the engine is revving faster than the car...its the clutch...

if you drive up a steepish hill, go from second to fourth, accelerate hard...if engine races, even brieflly, clutch is slipping
