H7 Dipped Beam Guide?

Hi , not been on here for a while. :)

My drivers side dipped beam has blown , I have changed the bulbs before but when I last had a service/mot at my local Fords garage they said my dipped beam had been fitted incorrectly.

Anyway they did fit them correctly for me , but I never thought to ask what I had done wrong.

Its a Philips h7 blue vision ultra thats blown but I have ordered some Osram nightbreaker unlimited to swap both out so I then have all Osram as my high beams are also nightbreakers.

Getting to the point, lol , is there any good guides on fitting h7 bulbs to a Ford focus 08 onwards.

Pretty hard to fit them incorrectly I I would of thought. Maybe didn't clip it in fully and had abit of glass touching the metal ???

yeah not sure , I mean I had them fitted for ages before the service , I guess I can study the fitted bulbs closely before I change them.

There really isnt too many ways that they could be fitted incorrectly to be honest, perhaps not secured down, but thats about as far as it can be fluffed up!

On the MK2.5 with halogen H7's you just need to remove the light and take of the cover. Once you're in there the bulb is just pushed in with a black pinch clip or something isn't it? Will only go in one way round?

Hi , yeah like I say I have changed them before but I was hoping to find a good guide on the Internet.

Hopefully the weather is good this weekend to change them.

You can sometimes knock the bulb out of position when pushing the connectors on. Pretty difficult on the Mk2, however I always check they are sitting flush by looking at the bulbs through the lens. Its pretty obvious if one is not sitting properly.

Hi

Fitted them today , like you guys say it does seem difficult to fit them incorrectly as one side of the bulb fitting is flat with a little square hinge which fits into the mould in the lens so it impossible to fit them the wrong way.

Really cant see how I fitted them incorrectly before?

oh hang on I just thought something when I connected the bulb I connected the bulb to the connector first and then slotted it into the lens , should I have put the bulb into the lens first and then pushed the connector onto that?

ok back again :) , refitted them this time inserting the bulb into the lens first and then putting the connector on.

Results in a brighter light and more flush with the lens.

Before I was fitting the bulb to the connector first and then fitting it into the lens , and although the bulb was fitted tightly to the connector it wasn't flush with the lens and light output was not as bright!

All sorted then. :)

hope so , funny thing is there are videos showing the way I done it originally , and I'm sure its wrong as if you put the bulb into the connector outside of the lens then its not going to be flush , where as if you put the bulb into the lens and then push the connector on its going to be flush.

Had one blow on me last night, so changed over for some Osram nightbreakers, both lights done in the dark in 10 minutes, prob payed over the top for the bulbs but local car shop 2 min away had them in stock.

I changed my standard bulbs to osram cool blues when I got the car

after about 14 months they blew within a couple weeks of each other (not a long time, but I think it shows that they are a consistent quality!)

now I have Phillips blue vision - I don't think I rate them as highly as the osrams!

as for fitting, i had a mess on at first when it was dark! ..go park up a couple foot from a wall with your lights on and see what it shines like onto the wall :)
