PG13
Hello everyone. I'm new to this place and am in dire straights, maybe you can help me. First, my back story. I decided to get a motor and always liked the Escorts, and saw an Escort Van mk4 turbo. I couldn't resist and bought it. The guy who sold it to me is genuine and everything seemed fine (still in contact with him if I need advice etc). Seemed in good condition overall, all things considered. Haven't even driven 100 miles and already have problems. Mainly electrical. The battery would go flat in no time, the fuses for the indicators kept blowing, and worst of all, suddenly a lot of blue smoke on start up. I'm not going to pretend I know loads about cars. I decided the best route to make sure a proper job is done, and to give it a proper look over, is to just splash out and drop it off at a Ford place. They will replace the alternator which isn't charging and the battery which doesn't even hold a charge... but also discovered that the MAP sensor needs changing. However, Ford doesn't sell this item anymore. They said they don't fit 2nd hand or 3rd party parts. But I've persuaded him to make an exception if I find him the part. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

SandyCat
eBay or breakers yard for the MAP As for the charge, old Fords are known for discharging the battery through the alternator even which switched off - they went faulty and stayed live. Our Sierra used to do it. So replacing the alternator may also cure the problem of the battery discharging.

Absolutely nothing has come up yet. I've found ones which look similar but don't have the same part number. I think I may have bought a big pile of junk. I've actually ordered a part which I HOPE will work, it should be arriving today, I'll just have to wait and see and hope it does. If not, yours looks like a good bet. And if that doesn't work out, thanks for your tip too AdeMk1. Much appreciated guys. :)
