blue flash
Hey guys. Its happened again. Put new discs and pads on my car at 72735 miles, Left disc starting to warp at 76758 mls (changed it) now at 79055 mls the left disc is statin to warp again. I have no ideas why now, have new caliper pins, pads are wearing evenly, calipers are sliding nicely with no sticking points. Any ideas would be great full, thanks. artscot79
If all is okay brake wise then it would come down to driving style ie keeping youre foot on the brake when they are hot secondly is overloading the car third is excessive breaking or riding the brakes obviously a sticky piston will also cause this so ide consider that yes the caliper slides but the piston may be stuck in or not returning properly also the brand of disks can be the reason cheap discs like some eBay brands are rubbish
blue flash
Thanks for that artscot, after what you have said I don't keep my foot on the brake, don't overload and don't break excessively or ride the brakes. Having said that the discs I had came from euro parts they were just wrapped in a plastic bag with no name or nothing on them, so they could be any make form anywhere. Will give the piston a tweak on the weekend. Thanks again.
IINexusII
i wouldnt trust eurocarparts/unbranded for brakes, as you said with no label they could be some chinese brake disks. you could try pagid from eurocarparts i put mintex pads and disks in on the front of my 1.8 last year and they are great. been 15,000 miles since and loads of meat left and no warping disks. ill be doing the same to the rears when they run out http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-Ii-1-8-Tdci-Front-Mintex-Brake-Pad-Disc-Kit-/300871571127?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item460d57d6b7
jeebowhite
It sounds more like to me the brake balance fis biased to one side. it might be a fault on the hydraulics to the brake, causing one piston to extend more, or moreso likely not release straight away, so that when you take your foot off, the right comes off fine, and the left just sticks longer. thats what warps them (especially on hot disks)
Andy.B1971
you cannot go wrong with pagid, euro sell a brand called EICHER both pads and discs are shocking steer well clear.. naturally when you change discs the hub should be cleaned with a wire brush as this in the past has caused disc problems. Recently on a ABS/ESP update coarse we were advised to use only proper brake grease NOT copper grease smothered over everything , the reason being it has emerged that if can interfere with the ABS sensor function.... :D

stef123
For years many manufacturers have been against the use of copper grease, everyone still uses it though I used the proper recommended brake grease on a job before, the car was back with me a few weeks later for something else so I had a look at the pads, barely any grease left on them it had all washed out. karlos1987
I've always used copper grease and never found any problems with it. Sent from my C5303 using Ford OC mobile app
Andy.B1971
I have used copper grease for the last 25 years too and had no problems , I am merely passing on what has been told to me , I now am only allowed to used approved brake grease. Hey ho funny old world lol
Andy.B1971
If all the brake components are clean and using quality parts you won't get any trouble even without any grease ....
artscot79
No no never copper grease on anything other than the rear of the pads as stef said brake grease on the slides and pistons copper grease if you rub it between youre fingers is rough has particles in it these bits can tear rubber seals giving you far more issues When i had the motorbike i saw a guys brakes where the seal on the piston slide had swollen letting in all the crud off the road causing the slide pins to start rusting giving sticking brakes that was from the particles clumping up and forcing the seal open given the brake components location theyll never be clean and should always be greased with non oil based brake grease

Andy.B1971
A rag wont get stubborn rust deposits off use a wire brush if that doesn't shift the rust gently file the build up of rust off, some carriers use s/steel shims where the pads slide on some don't, common sense tells you if the pads fit correctly or not....
