Slupanter
Hi guys, Does the new ST lose BHP when it gets hot or is this a lie? AS are saying the ST drops to 216BHP at 85 degrees Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

Slupanter
So it's a lie to get you to buy their remap kit? Thanks for the reply Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
Dee_82
Thought most cars lost power when hot, isn't that what the intercoolers there to help with? I know on really hot days I can feel a difference. my mk2 warmed up is much more punchy on a cool day than a hot one, come to think about it even F1 cars dont like the heat, or have I completely missed the point? jeebowhite
Not wrong at all. Colder air in combustion leads to bigger expansion at combustion. That's why you're getting more from it when colder.
Slupanter
So will a heat shielded induction set and larger inter cooler help? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
Dee_82
More air in is good but not if that air is warm or full of crap because of a crap filter. apparently painting the intercooler black will help it when your at a standstill like at a junction or traffic lights, pretty cool stuff when you think about as for bigger, others will know better but I don't think bigger is always better, that air is needed and needs to be cool, its a balance, bigger may mean cooler but slower, smaller may been less restriction but warmer. Slupanter
I've got the AS induction kit, Air-tech stage 3 intercooler. http://www.autospecialists.co.uk/AS-Performance-Induction-kit-with-KN-filter---fits-ST250--Zetec-S-16-Eco-Boost-Product-1129.html http://www.autospecialists.co.uk/Focus-ST250-Stage-3-Airtec-Intercooler-upgrade-with-full-depth-WRC-style-Air-Scoop-surround---Pro-Series-Black-Product-1128.html Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
troy45
As above, all engines lose power as they get hotter, then on cars like the ST (assuming it follows the mapping of the ST225) it'll be monitoring the intake air temperatures (air into the inlet manifold) and if these exceed set limits then the ECU backs off ignition timing and goes a lot richer on the fuel/air mixture to try and cool things down. This will obviously reduce power as well. This was a bit of an issue sometimes even with standard ST225's when they first came out and Ford uprated the intercooler to improve things. Same for when people run some higher power remaps with the standard intercooler still fitted. I'd expect that any benefits in improving air induction efficiency alone won't have much benefit for intake temperatures temperatures as these will be cancelled out by the heating effect the turbo causes, intercooler does much more in this area. Great excuse to fit a nice smart intercooler like the AS jobbie :)
Slupanter
So you approve of the kit :) Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
Andy.B1971
You only need to look at the Mountune upgrade packages mp260,mp350 etc, they use bigger intercooler, modified standard airbox with high flow filter, injectors, remap etc, I am sure that if mountune thought induction kits were beneficial then they would include them in their packages, so 350 bhp with modified standard air box proves it has high enough flow rate for cold air cant be too bad really....unless you really want the boy racer sound........ Slupanter
The AS 285 pack suits me ATM. I know my talent limit hehe, I think I'll run out of talent before I run out of power. I've put the money aside for the new RS as it look so sexy Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
