As long as the insured car is less than one year old it is covered for new car replacement.

Also go through Quidco. Currently £50 cashback for new aviva policies. Have to wait a little bit but a nice little bonus in a month or so time.

Let me know if you want me to invite you to join quidco (i get a little bonus for you signing up :D)

Okay okay, so say I wrote it off 374 days after purchase date, they would just give me market value? Or would they cover new for old since I'd taken out the policy on day 128? If you get where I'm coming from :')

But yeah when my renewal comes through I'll let you know! Trying to get sub 350 this year!

Doesn't matter when you took out the policy. If the car is older than a year from registratiob they would just pay market value so at that point you would probably want gap insurance too.

This Doesn't matter for me though. I get a new car every 9 months lol

Yeah I'm with you! Awful tempted by another car after 9 months, but I want to wait for a significant shape change til that happens...

Out of interest what's the 'equity' situation after just 9 month?

Not too bad. Had a 1.25 zetec for 9 months @ £189 a month (only put in £300 deposit) then traded up to a ZS for £210 a month then to an ST for £250 so I guess there's not really any negative equity

Been driving 6 months at age 57 - paid £649 for year one - guess year two won't be much cheaper.

My renewal will be due in about a month so started looking at quotes. Cheapest so far is Swiftcover, it was £310 with the default excess and no extras, up to £369 with total excess of £100. That includes a 10% discount for having a dashcam. I probably will be adding extras like personal injury and legal cover, but so far it's looking like a good reduction on last year :)

The thing I don't get is that price was from Swiftcover's site and was less than their price on Confused.com, even though I tried to enter all the details the same. Maybe it's just that Confused.com works differently. Have any of you found that you can get cheaper quotes from insurers' own websites, even if those insurers are on comparison sites?

Yeah it's always like this. I guess your just cutting out confused.com's or any other comparisons sites slice of the pie.

I always go to comparison, find cheapest then go direct. Then try non comparison sites

That's what I've done for the last few years too. The same thing happened when I compared gas & electric quotes, Coop were cheapest on Uswitch, then phoned them and they gave me a quote that was a lot lower lol.

I'm not sure if the comparison sites get a "slice of the pie" though, I thought they earn their money through contracts with the insurance companies and advertising. I could be wrong though.

I was talking about dashcams and insurance the other week, I've never seen it mentioned when completing details.

Have they started asking if you use one now?

I'm sure for a 10% Discount a lot of people will say they do, but obviously don't.

I was tempted to phone up my Insurer and tell them I use a dashcam all the time now.

Swiftcover claim to be "the first mainstream car insurance provider to reward drivers for having a dashcam installed in their car", and I don't know if any other insurers give a discount. If I can get 10% off £400+ then my Mobius will have paid for itself :). Although I have a 2nd one now so I can have one facing backwards, and I doubt they'll knock off another 10% for that lol.

Comparison sites get a commission for introducing you that's why with sites you get cash back of £30 or so you get the commission instead.

I'm 8 months off a renewal, so I hope by then it's an option on most Insurers,

For 10% Discount I'm sure they'll start asking for proof of one being used, not just a picture of one in a window taken from Google lol.

In less than 5 weeks, I've got 260GB of 1080p footage, most is from works van though.

Think I'll have to keep a 4-5 week limit on footage lol, I'll make sure I've got plenty around renewal time though.

Hi guys I've just recently renewed and went with Admiral 10month policy which gives 1yr ncb.

Was just shy of 350 with mods declared with just me and the missus. 23yr old 1yr ncb focus 2.0 petrol. I asked admiral about dash cam but they weren't bothered about it and didn't effect the premium at all.

First car (golf mk4 1.6) at 18 was 1200 a year tho with the whole family on then lol then had company cars so didn't need to worry about it until got my focus and the first year was 500 with Tesco.

My insurance has been round the £185 mark for a long time 9 years no claims, now it has jumped to £395 because I'm now unemployed, wanted to put retired but wasn't allowed because I'm not drawing a pension

How can they stick an extra £210 cos they say you are unemployed ? When in fact you are retired. Seems like a back door idea to get the unemployed back in to work. !

I am now (early) retired at 62, SAGA insure me as retired !

By definision you are only unemployed if you are seeking employment, if you are retired then you are not seeking employment.

Sounds like some sort of discrimination !

My insurance was just over £200 fully comp, many years a clean license, no claims ever.

My daughter pays a little more (same car) half my age & only been driving 8 years.

It seems to me that one of the most important factors regarding insurance is your postcode.

My car is kept in my locked garage over night but still get hammered, whereas my daughter's car is left on the street !

I'm 18 and have a 13 plate 1.6 Focus Zetec PowerShift which cost me £3,050 to insure for a year, including commuting to a place of study. Hopefully this drops when I've had my licence a year.

£3000?!?!?!

Did you add parents or anything on to that? If you did.. I dread to think what the price was without them..
