mdvt72
Hi guys! I've been told replacing the EGR Valve is quite common. Is this what's wrong with my car? I get a judder like it's being starved of fuel then glow plug light starts flashing and I lose all power. Engine is still running but have no revs. I then slip it into neutral, turn the ignition over and it starts again. It can then be okay for a bit or go again 30 secs later. It's an intermittent problem and other than when this happens the car runs fine. Mpg is down a bit though. Is it the EGR Valve? Thanks for any input. xxxDKPROxxx
Hi Mark, This is the exact issue I am getting on my Mondeo TDCi too. What you have experienced is called "Limp Home Mode". It's when the car spots an issue and shuts off the turbo and rev limits you to 2500rpm to avoid damage to the engine. Mine does the same thing about turn it off and on again to get most of it back but I never really get full turbo until I sit the car for a while, for me this hints towards the EGR as the turbo would get hot if not enough air gets to the intercooler (at least I think that's how it works). My thread is just above yours (before this reply) on the forums! Mine happens when I accelerate from 4th to 5th (overtaking for example), it's been suggested that it could either be the EGR (which returns exhaust gases into the engine to reduce emissions) or the fuel filter (if it hasn't been changed for a while). Friday night is my night to go and have a look at it with another forum member local to me. Youtubing how to clean an EGR should give you an idea of what to look out for, I'm guessing that I'm going to pull mine off and find a ton of soot! Give it a good clean up with some carb cleaner and if it is that then supposedly it makes a MASSIVE difference to how the car drives! I will let you know how my Friday venture goes as it may give you some idea of what it'll take! Thanks, Thom
