chris f
Can any one please help confirm this? I have been looking to get a remap or after market plug in tuning box for my 2009 2.0 TDCI 140bhp mk4 with DPF and EGRs. My query is i have been told that the engine in my 140 bhp is exactly the same as the one in the 163 bhp. so if this is true can i buy an ecu for the 163 plug it in and then add an after market plug in tuning box? would the engine and gearbox be able to take this, i know this my be a bit extreme but an ECU from a good scrap yard is the same as a remap and then an £80 plug in box. If this would work i should be able to see around the 200 bhp and near to 480 nm. I am very much aware that i would have to upgrade the brakes but you have to do this first on any power mod as you need to be able to stop, its simple maths no stop = no car + very big bills. in past have tuned a car to the max going all engine internals pulleys etc. this is a very expensive way to go so trying to cheat and save money. Many thanks in advance for any info and help. Chris
adambell
Why don't you just buy a proper tuning box that is designed for your car and engine. I have a Dtuk red power box on my 163 Bhp and it's fantastic. Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
beethoven
Advice! Do NOT plug in a tuning box, it's no good! you are (much) better off with a decent chip tuning / remapping. And you do not need a tuning box anymore. If you want to replace the ECU with the 163bhp programming, its a waste of money.Your ECU can be remapped

If you buy a proper tuning box and not a box of resistors from eBay they are fantastic.Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
beethoven
What is the principal of a 'proper' tuning box? I mean: how does it work??
adambell
You actually want the full technical answer on the control system? Can I just save myself some time and suggest you look at the Dtuk website? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
BOF
My query is i have been told that the engine in my 140 bhp is exactly the same as the one in the 163 bhp. I don't believe that it is exactly the same, although the difference(s) may be trivial. so if this is true can i buy an ecu for the 163 plug it in and then add an after market plug in tuning box? Well, to answer the question that you asked, you can do this. It is If this would work i should be able to see around the 200 bhp and near to 480 nm. this part that may be a bit optimistic. Maybe, you wouldn't be all that far off, but I'm only guessing. But you can connect up the tuning box, and that's all that you asked. I am very much aware that i would have to upgrade the brakes... Are you? Given that the post-FL 2.2 runs that kind of power figure, and that, as far as I can tell, all of the brakes on Mondys, apart from the 2.5 L petrol turbo are the same, Ford think that the standard brake set up can handle that power. I have to admit I would be all in favour of going for pads with a bit more tolerance of higher temperatures, but I'd be in favour of that with or without the power upgrade And, it is just that; what I'm in favour of, rather than a necessity
chris f
OK so going to go plug in route, Next I have seen that some of the new generation they have two channels, 1 for the fuel and 1 for turbo. Are these any better than the single and is it worth paying the extra, have looked at the dtuk in the past Next is there any real difference in the economy and power options or do they just give same resulting bhp /nm result? Once again thanks for help as never tuned a diesel before. Chris
adambell
I would suggest giving a company such as Dtuk a call and speaking with them. They will give you all available options and explain the gains for each option. Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC mobile app
