Someone called griffo, a "technician" advised me that the starter was at the front of the engine and an easy job. Now I'm being told to remove the battery which is about a mile away from any starter motor bolts!! Is there ANYONE on this forum that actually knows what they are talking about?

The petrol engine version is at the front. Diesel at rear. My info is from ford etis.

The battery is about 2 feet above and to the right of the starter. I am not wasting time removing it and the tray when that obviously won't lead to access to the starter bolts!! Now, has anyone got any sensible suggestions? Has anyone on here actually changed a starter on a 2006 Fiesta Diesel ? I just want to know if, and how, it is done.

1 remove the battery tray. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables.

2 Remove the starter motor upper retaining bolts.

3 Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02 Jacking and Lifting.

4Remove the starter motor lower retaining bolt.

5Disconnect the electrical connectors and remove the starter motor

you cant help some, lol

the starter on the mentioned variant rarely plays up. admitedly i havent had to replace one in situ , but removed the bolts off them enough times to do gearbox removals, and engine replacement. etc

time to remove and refit is just over 45 mins.

Obviously Ian just makes it up then.

He's one of the most knowledgable people I know of regarding fords, it's quite a feat that you want to knock his input as if he is wasting your time.

These pictures bear no resemblance to anything that's under the bonnet of my car. Perhaps I've got a rare prototype/experimental Fiesta Diesel ??

Hi, has anyone got any idea or clue what to look for as my 1.6 tdci 2007 fiesta just won't turn over not even click, checked and recharged battery, checked all fuses and relays all good, tried jump start, and no result, thought maybe it's starter so pushed car and selected 1 gear then tried again no difference, all lights work 2 months ago full service wtf is going on? Please any ideas would be highly appreciated. Thanks

The starter motor on a 1.4 tdci is not under the battery tray. It's actually at the rear of the engine  in the centre just above the exhaust.  It's not particularly easy to get to without a lift.  Not an easy job for the home mechanic.

Having the same problem, did you get an answer I'm wondering if I should pay out for a new starter as it may be something else. Be grateful for your reply. Dave
