Took My 2.0tdci C-max For A Service And It No Longer Starts

I took my 2.0tdci 2004 c-max for a full service today, the car is still at the garage and it wont start any more. This car has had no running problems, no power loss and has only done 86k miles it drove perfectly i drove 33 miles to get the service done.

After completing the service the car wont start any more they have managed to start it on easy start but as soon as the revs drops the car cuts out. They said they found some metal fillings in the fuel filter housing but i cant see how my car can suddenly stop working as i have had nothing wrong with it prior to the service.

Any advice out there as i dont want to be hit with a huge bill considering my car was perfect before it had a service.

Metal filings in the fuel filter often means the fuel pump is disintegrating

I see that being a potential issue but ive seen many posts were people were having issues beforehand. Could it just be a coincidence that after a service the unit just packs up because the fuel system has been disturbed.

the tdci is notorious for non starting after a fuel filter change, the filter needs to be filled before refitting and then blead through.

the fuel is usually pulled through at the filter with some kind of vacume device the garage which did the service should know this.

I hope to get my car back tomorrow when they can work on it again. My starter motor and battery has been through hell.

Garage has said there is a hairline crack in the filter housing at the top. I think the garage has done this as this is not my fault as the car was running perfectly in the first place no issues. My guess is they over tightened the filter housing

How are the garage acting about the situation?

You still have the potential issue of a disintegrating fuel pump

the garage would have seen evedence of this before changing the filter and seeing as you drove 33 miles to the garage with no ill effects of the fuel filter housing crack i would say the garage cause the damage.

Thanks for your comments and help after negotiating with garage i have managed to get my car back they was trying to charge me 1 hour extra labour for finding the problem when i told them my car was fine before they said it was coincident how it happend, and not malicious damage. I mentioned to them about the nail in the tyre before the service they did not plug it and said i did not mention it to them. I said to them if you do a full service you should of checked it and noticed the nail and called me.

I had to buy there second hand filter cap at £50 with no labour charge in the end the service and cap cost me £253 instead of £190 im not happy with the outcome i just wanted to get my car out of there and never take it back there again,

Focus and Cmax diesels to have a problem with the filter housings and they usually break after having the filter changed on a service. You are not alone on this issue.
