mattbel123
Hello, Recently my ford fiesta 2012 has stalled on me twice in 3 weeks. Once again today and the last time 3 weeks ago. I can not however figure out what may be causing the issue. No warning lights or any indications before and after it stalls, also it starts back up. The only thing I did different was that I had new brakes and brake pads put on 3 weeks, approximately 4 days before the first stall. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this issue? But 1st a few questions: What engine & fuel type? Is there any unsteadyness or unusual behavior in the idle speed? Or hesitations when driving with very small throttle openings? Do you have any diagnostic aids, eg. scanner ? It may be nothing, or it may be an intermittent fault that will worsen. Having a scanner handy to check the codes if and when the light comes on is a good idea. And for some minor errors, the light does not come on on the 1st occurrence of an error, but the code will still be stored.
mattbel123
Hard time answering the questions since it's my wife's vehicle. Don't have any diagnostic aids. I know she told me that she hasn't noticed any hesitations or anything unusual. She never noticed any lights on the dashboard coming on. We thought bad fuel could be the problem. She did fill up yesterday right before the car stalled on her.

We thought bad fuel could be the problem Bad fuel often gets the blame, but is rarely the cause! The trouble is, there are loads of bits to go wrong. These cars have inbuilt diagnostic facilities, which are the Only way to narrow down the possibilities, in most cases. And there is a wide range of available gizmos that you can use to access these diagnostics. Having some idea of what is wrong can reduce stress, and sometimes save money, when things do go wrong, as is inevitable at some time. This might be a good time to investigate. My recommendations would be: 1) Get a generic OBD2 scanner. From about £10.00. I got a U480 off eBay, worked fine. Very easy to use, self contained, but limited capabilities. OR 2) Get a powerful Ford specific system. Cost £15.00 for the interface. Needs a computer of some sort. (COM port, USB, bluetooth or WiFi interfaces available). Not as simple as the self contained OBD2 scanner. You will find a lot about ELM327 & Forscan on this site, which together provide a very comprehensive diagnosis & maintenance tool. James (jeebowhite) has done a nice guide: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=21196 For an ELM327 adapter, seehttp://www.spanglefish.com/TunnelratElectronics/index.asp?pageid=516992 you will also need a program called Forscan, its free and you can get it from http://forscan.org/download.html Note: Simply reading the codes can do no harm, and does not change anything. Just do not reset the codes (and you would have to ask the scanner to do this) if you are going to take the car to a garage.
