Boot not opening 2013 Focus Keyless Entry

Hi all, my wife owns a 2013 Ford Focus Sport 1.0 Eco Boost with keyless entry. Today it decided that the boot did not want to open, there is a quiet audible sound when you press the fob or boot handle, but no actual clunk of the boot lock opening.

I'm not sure if it's related or not, but on the journey home before this happened, there was a single popping or cracking noise from at the time what sounded like the rear seat / centre console area ( behind us but didn't sound liker boot), it was quite loud as we both looked at each other thinking we'd dropped or cracked something.

We were able to get the stuff out of the boot as it's a hatchback and could drop the seats.

Anyone have any ideas act we may be looking at here?

I can only assume it's the latch itself which has gone.

Is it out of warranty?

It will be now. Try and get it into the dealer this week.
