Fitting courtesy lights in front doors of mk3

Hi guys I'm a newbie and hoping someone can help please

ive bought some led lights to go in the front doors at the bottom so that when you open the door the light comes on. The problem ive got is they will only come on when the door closes and you turn off the interior light. Being a mk3 you don't have a timer on the interior light 

any ideas please thanks

How have you wired them? Seems to me you've got mixed up somewhere. I would have thought that a live feed to the lights and then earthed via the courtesy switches would be all you need but perhaps there's something more complex in the wiring?

If you describe on here how you've wired them it should be easy to provide the feedback you are seeking.
