Staldantes
Focus diesel mk1. For the DIYers out there, does anyone know about installing a vacuum pump? When I took it off it kind of sprung off, but on refitting the shaft that protrudes from the engine block requires force placed on the vacuum pump to reinstall. Do I force it back on, or is there a trick I am missing? Is this pushed out by the cams? seems difficult to align the shaft with the diaphragm centre. Thanks. mjt
I can tell you what the Haynes says - I don't have any experience with working on the vacuum pump. According to Haynes you should use a spanner on the crankshaft pulley bolt to turn the crankshaft until the pushrod is fully retracted into the cylinder head. The pushrod is operated by an eccentric on the end of the camshaft. You should have done this before removing the pump but I would guess that if you do it before refitting it should be ok. Staldantes
Cheers 'mjt'. Thats exactly what I needed to know. This information was nowhere in all my searches; so I hope others will find this before removing the pump from now on. A thousand thanks.
