Not firing up properly

Hi all,

For a month or so my Galaxy 1.8tdci duratorq Zetec has had an intermittent starting issue which means it starts beautifully, starts well but cuts out immediately or just plain doesn't fire.  I've been at it today to try to get to the root of the problem. There are no codes from a diagnostic plug in, the egr seems lovely and free and I don't thing there is an anti stutter/judder valve on this engine (is there?). It's had a new battery to no avail and the connections between battery and starter have all been taken off and polished up. I'll add it always starts with a bump start and runs as it should with no warning lights. luckily I live on a hill but it's not ideal when down the shops or fuel station.

Any help with this would be much appreciated, I'm even considering taking it to a garage!!  It must be driving me nuts for that to happen!!
