stef123
It looks like the adjustment has been missing for quite some time lol
JoJo2222
Stef123, can you clarify what you mean? many thanks
stef123
The self adjuster hasn’t been adjusting, the lever shouldn’t be travelling that far. Has someone been tightening the handbrake by the adjusting screw inside the car by any chance?
JoJo2222
Ah right I get you. Yes the handbrake has been tightened recently. Alrhough if you slacken it right off the level does not move back. could this be a problem with the cable?
stef123
It may well be but those shoes need completely stripped and rebuilt on both sides. In doing that the cables can be checked too. Common misconseption is that tightening the handbrake cable inside the car is all that's required. In most cases it needs adjusting inside the drum first.
Paulkp
May not apply, but father in law had a similar problem on a Rover - Without dis-assembling anything, I backed off the cable adjustment completely, then stood on the footbrake - Auto adjustment then took up the slack, and then re-adjusted the cable.
