IPC _ Instrument cluster. It's certainly a separate module on the Mk7 so will be on the MK8. Corruption in the volatile memory probably. Disconnecting battery for a few minutes will clear it. Then you might have a few new faults from the battery being disconnected. The pictures above show the connections to the body computer. Reseating these sorted it.

Modern car's eh. I remember my Mk4 Escort used to suffer with corrosion to the rear light clusters, needed fibreglass pen to clean the contacts. That was about the sum of electrical problems on the Mk4 Escort!
