Managed to update from Sync3.3 to 3.4. Now awaiting the download for the maps. Currently on F7.

If it's right what's been posted above then the install is going to take some time as my journeys are only 15 mins at most atm. 

Ford..uk website is saying I have a SYNC download 890MB.

underneath it says “Before you install maps you need to update your SYNC software. 
 

I already have F9 maps and SYNC 3.4

i got SYNC3.4 from ford..uk website with some help and got F9 maps OTA as I’m no good with PC. 

I’m assuming it’s F10 maps ? Really don’t know what the SYNC update is , 890MB isn’t much ? 
 

Do you guys think I’ll be able to get these OTA ? 
if not , how difficult is it to download from Ford website? 

Car says all is up to date. I’m sure I’ve read that somewhere before!

Mine is almost identical to yours, except the Sync update is stated as 8.2gb. My previous updates were all done via wifi & the car says it's up to date (Sync 3.4 & F9 maps).

Was the 8.2gb for Sync3.4? Or is that a new offering from Ford? 
I'm sure I read recently about a 8gb update been put on the ford website in error..

So as you know. A while back in my Ford Focus 20 plate I did F9 Maps via Wi-fi which on and off took 13 hours.

It did not download all the language files, but to get round that I just place sync into other languages and it downloaded them. So I’m know a whiz in all languages with sync 3 update.  I was having a full on conversation. All though I think it was telling me that it had no clue what I was saying lol.

 

However I Recently I logged into ETIS and could see a Ford sync version pending for my car, however it doesn’t show via wifi update or the normal Ford sync website update. 
very strange indeed.

 

However my friend has a 20 plate Focus and his hadn’t updated to maps F9 via Wi-fi. Placed his vin into to sync as Wi-fi says no update and the 890mb was there to download.  So downloaded and installed and now has versions 20351.

sent the file back to Ford to say update done and all of a sudden a 22.8G map update appears which I’m download now for him. So I will assume this is map F9 for his car, but will let you all know when I’ve downloaded and installed it.

ive however also updated my car with the 890mb update which took mine to 20351, however sync in etis still shows an update pending, which is because I can’t upload a file to say I’ve got it or sync Wi-fi update is not communicating back just yet.

 

will keep everyone informed when I know more.

The 8.2gb is a new offering. I've manually forced the car to scan for updates, but it's quite happy with what its got.

This could either be a language update or a new map,  but I would think more languages. Sometimes when doing updates over Wi-fi will not see any updates if your not physically in that language in the system.

so this will update them all I would think.

if you download it and take a pic of what’s in there, I’ll see what they are for you.  

Also some of the Ford Sync 3 updates have been separated for some models of sync on the system.

 

my friends Ford s Max had 4 of them like that, this is because the car had no updates in 3 years, so he had to do them all  1 at a time one by one before she could get F9 maps

Thats all I’m getting. Checked for wifi connection too. It’s on

I have a feeling the Wi-fi updates at Ford end are offline at present while they update with more new files.

only reason for me to say this, is that my friends car say no updates straight away and there is,  mine is doing the same and I’ve updates. 
 

Ford have 2 systems for updates. 
wifi version which are all separate files

and the web version.

so it’s possible for many of us the Wi-fi version is off line just for now

It’s from ford website (not cynlabs) .  I have 2 usb sticks and access to a PC . Is it fool proof?

I’ve never used cynlabs as well.

ive done both Wi-fi updates and also done many from the web version.

As long as you follow fords instructions it’s pretty easy to do. I’ve a decent Sandusky 32GB stick I use. 

what versions is your sync on now and what map version?

im on sync 3.4  versions 20351, f9 maps

which is the latest versions i can have at present.

It shows you a link to click on it.

Make sure your usb stick is a decent one, format it to exFat as well

So I’ve downloaded the latest update for my friends car after the 890 mb update,  it’s maps F9 for him.

 

so F10 hasn’t been released yet. It’s on the Ford servers I’ve heard, but not showing as released to the public yet.

 

I’ve added a screen shot on to format.

click on the right hand mouse button on your flash drive and choose format, you will then need to choose exFat and tick quick format will be fine 

 

When you download the update it will be in a zip folder.

if you have windows 10, just open the folder and you will see the files in there.

all you do is then drag the files over 

I’ll do another pic for you

I’m gonna try see if I can do this tomorrow.

Any time. Here are a few other pics,

 

when you download the file, it will be in a zip format.  Open the zip file (it should open if you have a zip tool installed on you laptop. 
 

once it’s open it should have 3 files in.

 

you just then drag those 3 files to your USB stick.

Do not drag the zip file as sync will not see it.

 

it’s drag and drop onto the usb drive and you usb drive should have the 3 files showing.

 

good luck and hope it all goes well.

One last thing, when it’s doing the update, make sure the engine stays on. Or do what I do. Go for a drive and get a coffee from maccies lol.

the 890mb update takes about 20 mins and will cause the system / screen to shut down and reboot.

don’t panic, leave the usb Stick in, until it actually tells you to remove it. 

I’ll definitely use this as a guide. I’ll post tomorrow how it goes!
