New engine fitting photos of my car - scary!

Featured Replies

I bought my Mk2 a year ago. I bought it from the garage that I've been using for years now, they aren't cheap but the owner is fastidious! My car was one he actually intended to keep himself as a 'courtesy' car. It had a new engine fitted (as the previous single owner had driven it through a flood ending up wrecking it), new clutch, brakes and a host of other bits. The car drove like brand new, and I persuaded him to part with it for me. I still love the car, and this week was looking at his garage Facebook page, and stumbled across these photos of 'my' car having surgery - scary LOL

That's a seriously catastrophic case of hydro-lock for sure.

Lol, it looks much worse than it is!  I actually enjoyed engine swaps, it's all about being methodical and doing everything in order. And afterall, there are very few plugs, pipes or parts the same shape in the same area anyway!

I did a few many years ago on 1970s cars. the wiring consisted of:

two wires to starter motor, the thick battery lead and the thin one to activate the solenoid.

one wire to the contact breakers in the distributor

one wire to the oil pressure light switch

two wires to alternator - one thicker one for charging, one thin one for the dashboard battery light.

that was it really, some had one more wire for the anti-run on valve on the carb.

Haven't you missed out the earth strap/braid from the engine to the body? :whistling1:

No idea what you're talking about, but the car has worked perfectly for a year, so if it's missing anything, I guess it didn't need it LOL 🤣
