@martyntdci not sure if this is an anniversary gift for a 90 year marriage which could be customised to reflect the years 😂

Or it's a hobby kit

The 90 years of Mickey bit has thrown me 😆20190124_090356.thumb.jpg.62d3ac49cdcddc7d3b7ea6d691b237e3.jpg

I did like this card. One of my uni lectures the way he is makes me and my friends say that this guy must of had a few drinks 😂. The card suits our thoughts about him.

I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

A fried egg occasionally 😀

I do like making a smashing pasta bake, then paying £1.05 a litre to fill the car up! Not quite so keen on the insomnia and still being up at 2:45am 😂

It maybe micky, he's a tad white on the upper lip haha. I think the customisation is a perfect gift for 10years 😂

I like that it's Friday!!! 2 days off now to rest my sore hip and knee from my dancing on ice epic fails on Wednesday.😂

I do like this video talking about financial mistakes to not make when in your 20s. One thing stated was not to get an expensive car which the guy himself said he bought a subaru which lost £8k in value after a year. He also stated that the cost for running should not be more than 10% of you pre tax monthly income.

Instead; Save up for the midlife crises in the 50's then buy the car and blow more on divorcing the wife followed by becoming a sugar daddy to an Estonian woman ten years younger than you whom looks likd your ex wife but with alot less English, buy an apartment in Estonia for penny's and let it out to her parents.

That's my dad 😂theres no point

Didn't Wayne Rooney do similar buying his wife and her family houses; then cheated on the wife, but when she says she's leaving; he says "tell your family to get out of the house I paid for"

Lol my only desire in life is getting an expensive fast car. Don't know about getting married as I'm probably still young and people ain't mature yet. I do plan on saving for a property as an investment as soon as I start working before I think of getting a car. Sensible thing would be to get a cheap as chips to run car so little is spent on fuel. If I get a job that's local hopefully the running costs would be the same. I'd say I spend about £40 a month on fuel.

Schoolboy error. I bought my Lotus when I was 25 and it's now worth more than I paid for it.

I think there's a lot more to cars than expense and speed (and a lot more to life than cars of course). There are some lovely sports cars and hot hatches you can own for a lot less than supercar money. They're all plenty fast enough for the road (without causing you to lose your licence every time you drive them), and if you join a good club you can take them on track and learn how to get the most out of them.

I'm struggling to work out how he lost £8k on a 9 year old car in a single year...

I am fully of the opinion that, if you can afford to, you should live while you're young and don't have responsibilities and ailments...

It's new to me, this is the first company I've worked for that does annual pay reviews. The last 36 years it's always been a case of threatening to leave that produces a wage rise , no other way unfortunately.

I did get a rise last year on to the next payscale bracket which I will reach the top of in 2020 but I know there is no chance of any further progression. Prior to that I hadn't even had a cost of living rise for 5yrs so am still behind the level I should actually be at.

I've done a fair number of job applications over the years to get a promotion. It's a double-edged sword of course, if they don't care if you leave or not!😀

My company had "360 degree appraisal" at one time, dreamed up by consultants. They cut basic pay, but you could make it up in bonus (and a bit more) if you achieved targets and a good appraisal. You had to get a good report from your boss, other people on a similar level in other departments and your own team, plus achieve your individual and team targets for the year to be in with a chance of more cash.

It didn't take folk too long to realise that if, say, your boss gave you a bad report, you could give him one also, so he didn't get his bonus either! The scheme didn't last too long!😁

I always had a job to go to when I asked for pay rise, just incase they said no. Never had to follow it through . It gave me good interviewing skills over the years and was offered nearly all the jobs I applied for. Come to think of it, only 1 job I went for turned me down. The joys of being in a trade with more jobs than there are people with skills to fill them

Yeah, always worked out for me too, fortunately!😀

That's a good point. I don't know though if most cars out there are or will increase in value later in life. Yeah lol its just with me I'd like to experience living with a fast car. Fastest car I think I sat in was a audi a5 3.0 tdi V6 which is claimed 5.9 secs to 60mph.

@TomsFocus I'd say different cars depriciate differently. A BMW M3 for example was £51k new but you can get a 2015 one with 25 - 50k miles for £32 - 35k. They've lost around £20k in 3 - 4 years which is another thing don't buy a car brand new.

Sometimes I think I should do a part time job to earn some money and get things I want but the main worry is that time working might compromise my study time. Some people I see in uni in their expensive cars most likely must of financed it. Now I'm sure they must be working part time but the wages they earn probably most of it go towards the car. Its fun while it lasts but what would happen if you get married and have to save for a property? I was talking to someone who said he sadly has to sell his integra type R as him and the wife has to save for a house. He was really upset to sell and I don't blame him 😢

I'd totally understand if he'd bought a new car, but to lose £8k on a 9 year old car is pretty much impossible unless you're a complete fool lol.  Even if it halved it's value (very unlikely to be that much) he would have paid £16k for an 8 year old car...  😮  In my experience, I've found most regular cars (Focus/Golf/306/etc) drop around £1000 a year on average between 3-10 years old.  You'll also find cheap poverty spec cars depreciate worse than well specced ones, but that's the balance you have to work out when buying new or nearly new, which is why the majority of cars tend to be mid-range models.

You make a good point about houses & marriage etc, but that's the point where a lot of people sacrifice a nice car for other things in life.  A lot of the people I know that had 'nice' cars in their teens and early 20s have now moved on to more practical child friendly cars but have houses and families and holidays instead.  There's more to life than cars...so I'm told anyway.

After cleaning the interior during the week, I spent 2 hours washing the ST this afternoon: snow foam; fall-out remover on the wheels; citrus degreaser on the bumpers, diffuser and side skirts; shampoo then aqua wax on the bodywork, and finally sealant on the wheels. 😎

Time to get it filthy on the commute again now :wallbash:

@TimST2 has a proper mirror shine the paintwork 👍. That's something I like with black paint. My car is starting to get dirty plus there's a weather warning for snow on Tuesday.

Yeah, it won't last, but it's nice to get all the dirt off and it's another layer of protection to see it through the Winter for another month.

that looks like a lot of hard work to getting it to look that good

It's not really. As I said, 2 hours and no polishing. Washing it regularly and keeping the wax topped-up makes it a lot easier each time.
