vibeone
Basically the decision has been made on this, but I'm interested in views anyway. Focus 2.0 TDCI Powershift 2017 plate (148bhp version)..... It's quick anyway but the fuel econ is pretty crappy - so I'm getting a bluefin device. I had one previously, and I like the fact it's not a crazy mod (fairly safe) and it's easy to apply/remove. My question is how the gearbox responds to the new map. Does it ideally require the learning to be reset, or will that just happen over time anyway? I'm also aware Powershifts are made of glass, I know it's a risk, but I've also read that actually the ability to handle extra torque etc is not particularly an issue for a getrag powershift box (it's just everything else that breaks!). Anyone done it? Anyone got a view on what I might expect when I put my foot down having enabled the bluefin map?
DaveT70
The diesel powershift is quite strong and wet clutch and can take quite a bit of torque so it should be fine. You're probably only going to be remapping up to what Focus ST diesel was (power and torque wise) and that used the same box.

Bit less fuel usage, little bit more pppppppppppppower. But how does the gearbox know when to change, or does it just hit a certain rev point faster and therefore change faster? Am i overthinking this?
DaveT70
2 hours ago, vibeone said: But how does the gearbox know when to change, It's all based on weight and throttle load, preset for fuel efficiency in "D" mode so it'll change up as early as possible on light throttle load and hold the revs (too much TBH) on heavy throttle load. So, if you're tootling about it'll change up at 2,000 RPM in D if you give it a bit more it might go up to 2,500 In "S" mode it'll change at 3-4,000, which is annoying in a diesel. iantt
Can you still get bluefin devices? They were in financial trouble not long a go .
F0CUE
If your engine is the dw10c the higher 163 map is available to change to without paying for a remap. I think you use forscan to update the bcm and select that map seen it on another forum.

Forscan is unable to do this but UCDS is, but by the time you've paid for the lead and the credits on UCDS it's cheaper to get it remapped. Don't try and buy the Chinese cracked version of UCDS as you can't use the software if you're online so you can't download any files

vibeone
BTW, Bluefin/Superchips got bought out and are now back. I think you guys are talking about the 140 vs 163 engine - I had this previously. I thought the 140 engine (or map) was woeful to be honest and would have been tempted to go down that route. However, the bluefin map is for the 150bhp which seems to have come in in 2015/16? It's a PSA engine I believe... It takes it from 148 to 200bhp apparently.... Can't see the engine code, but it's this on etis: Engine: 2.0L Duratorq (110kW/150PS) Transmission: 6 Speed Powershift 6DCT450 - MPS6

I’d be happy with that. 200 seems awfully close to the ‘max safe’ as you put it - what is this figure?
F0CUE
When I was searching I came across something about 202 or 220 being the maximum map you can do that the gearbox can handle. I'll get back on that. But your engine may be different if its not the same. Edit: it was specifically the limit for peugeot I had seen to be safe with the same exact engine PSA variant which is 230 so 200 would be perfectly fine. And Im sure your engine will be a DW10 FD / AH01 (somebody correct me if wrong.

You just need the (highly experimental) 2.4.0 beta test version that is only supplied on special request. Apart from this you need to know exactly which software version you need. The Chinese UCDS clone software may not be able to download the Ford firmware files directly but it is perfectly possible to download the files manually and store them in the correct folder of the UCDS clone software. For less than €20,- the UCDS clone is a very powerful tool. Being based on an older version of the original UCDS software the clone sofware may not be as advanced as the latest original UCDS software but for most purposes the clone software will be more than sufficient and more advanced as many other (free or paid) software. I use the clone software for example to load my own custom software into the instrument cluster for testing. This is easier and faster than doing it the official way (using my VCM2 and the Ford IDS/FDRS software). 1
vibeone
Sadly my VCM2 clone has bit the dust. I have done the Apim upgrade via the FORScan beta software too and had success. however, while the information is good to know, I wouldnt dare use it for mapping. Bluefins aren’t cheap (especially when I have the hardware - this is a reflash because I changed cars) but I’m semi-happy to pay consider it gives me an easy ride and some guarantees too. Thanks for the update FOCUE - I did ask why there wasn’t a separate map for the auto (as some do have them) and was told this engine/gearbox combo didn’t require it. As others have said - if it’s actually just another Ford spec map for the ST I’d be over the moon at that. This is the version I’m getting (power curve also linked): https://www.mybluefin.co.uk/search?make=9&fueltype=2&model=2&variant=3248

The new guys I don’t know but historically the bluefins were always really safe maps. I will ask them if there is a stage 2 mod for fine but I have very little interest in it - all I want is a little extra power and a little extra mpg. Will report back in once I’ve got it next week. oh also my last car, the 138bhp 2.0 2012 plate was pretty slow before it but the bluefin did help a lot - however it wasn’t as big a jump as this new one

You should get zero lag too and defo a better mpg. Is the rear engine mount bangy on your version if you boot it?

I bangs but there’s an annoying ‘click’ on the steering which I haven’t got the to bottom of left. It’s light sounding not heavy and I can’t even work out where it’s coming from yet
F0CUE
It could be the clock spring or strut bearing/mount if you hear it more inside the car. If it's happening whilst pulling out of junction then it could be a cv joint.
vibeone
Mostly around maccies drive through if I’m honest. Seems to be when the steering switches or the weight/force switches sides etc. It’s due an mot in December (first one extended) so I might put it in and mention it. F0CUE
Sounds more like the common rear bushes when the weight shifts they creak happened on my mk2 and happens on my Mk3 also.

Hi, I've tried using the Chinese UCDS and can't really get it to do anything other than read and clear DTCs. I got it because I wanted to use the update wizard to update the PCM, BCM and ASM on the wife's MK3.5 Focus (I have a MK4 so I know it won't work on that). Would you mind giving me some instructions on how to download the update files myself and from where and then how to install them please?I'd be eternally grateful.
