Focus mk2 2.0 diesel fuel filter

I’m having trouble unscrewing the lid on the fuel filter housing, I’ve got a 27mm 6 point socket and it still won’t budge, has anyone got any ideas. Not sure how long it’s been since the fuel filter so don’t know if the lid was either over tightened or if the length of time has caused the difficulties.

If you can heat the lid that should help.  I don't mean get a blowtorch on a fuel component lol, just a hairdryer should be fine.  It's likely to snap in this weather otherwise.
