They're going to be sorely disappointed if that's the case.

The 1.0 EcoBoost was massively overhauled around 2018, belt replaced with a chain amongst other things.  However, the new engine was never fitted to the Mk3 Focus so we can be sure the OP's car is still the old type.

Daughters now ex boyfriend has a Hyundai Kona on a 19 plate, petrol, 120ps have been in it a few times and it is comfy with the added bonus of a higher seating position but for me I don't like the plastic around the body work, it looks tacky and will only look worse as the car gets older and also the power did not seem to be up to much, perhaps I've got used to the turbo diesel too much but when he bought it and we went for a longish drive and he went to put his foot down......I waited for it and nothing. It made some more noise and the rev counter went up but there was definitely no umph but he seems happy with it.

Cheers guys...I thought it was still the belt on mine but wasn't too sure....anyway we went down to Sheffield this morning and took the Kona for a test drive and I have to say I was very impressed. Even though it's 6 BHP down on my Focus, it seemed to pull away slightly better and was a very nice drive overall and the only thing I didn't like was the Lane Assist, but that was easily turned off !!

Having looked at some adverts for different coloured ones, they all look a bit plain, but this one with the contrasting light blue paint and black roof really stood out for me so....I've put a deposit down and am hoping to pick it up on Saturday 😁😁

So, not wanting to hijack the "Is this goodbye ??" thread, I am just starting to have similar thoughts.

Mine is a 2017 St-Line 1.0 Ecoboost with only 34k on the clock and full up-to-date service history and hasn't given me any trouble at all to date, I love the look of it (deep impact blue with 18" alloys) and I am still loving driving it, however, having read all the recent "Eco-Boom" threads on here lately, I just don't know if I can trust it to not follow suit ??

I don't like the shape of the Mk4 so that's out, don't particularly need/want an MPV/SUV as there's only me and the missus (although first grandchild is on the way), don't think I'm ready to go electric just yet, so what are people's thoughts....stick or twist ??

Well I stuck. Couldn't help it. I love the Mk4 look, and prefer it to the MK3. Really no a big fan of that Hyundai but I'm sure it would do a good job. Used to have a 12 plate ix35 which is still going strong (despite my ex's driving). And yea, the 'Eco-Boom' stories do concern me a tad, but for every scream you hear there will be many more giggles you don't.

I just got unlucky with my first Focus, it had a problem that not even Ford could fix. (Well, I reckon they could but I would hate to see the bill at the end!) I got unlucky and bought a dud. It hurt and knocked me a bit. But I'm getting another one and I'll leave it to the lords of fate. This time I'm paying a bit extra for a 3 year Ford warranty for peace of mind.

My advice is to do whatever you think is best based on your own personal experience.

It certainly would be good if we could get an accurate feel for this. As we've often commented many people initially come on forums like this because they have a problem with a fault or a delivery delay, etc.

I know quite a few people who are not car enthusiasts, who have had one or more ecoboosts, been highly satisfied with them, and are blissfully aware of any issues.

Edit PS: And of course with Fiesta and Focus being best sellers in their class for many years (not at present of course) plus other applications such as B- and C-Max there must be a heck of a lot of them out there.

Been searching around trying to find a figure for total production of 1.0 ecoboosts. Best I've found so far was a report from 2019 which stated over 1.6 million at that point.

So, I part-ex'd the Focus yesterday and am now the proud owner of a 2018 Hyundai Kona Premium. I've spent all day tinkering and fettling (as I do with all my cars when I first get them) and couldn't be happier...it looks the part and drives better than the Focus, so I couldn't be happier (so far). I'll still keep looking in on here though and contribute where I can...cheers guys for all your help over the last few years 👍

Good luck with the new car 👍  ..................... Judas 🤣

What version have you got? 1.0 1.6 hybrid or electric. Any photos?

Edit, ok. Just scrolled back and it's 1.0

Saw one today and the plastic arches were colour coded. (In blue) Looked nice with that done.

I've just enquired about a new one from my local dealer, 1.6 hybrid se connect( poverty spec. ) Not sure I want to spend that much, may go used if I like the drive of it.

This is identical to mine...metallic Surfy Blue with metallic black roof which I really like. I also prefer the 18" alloys on this to the ones on the SE and Play models...you could do worse ??

#Me too 🤣

Seriously I'm greatly relieved to be rid of the Ecoboom. The Vitara drives nicely, the 1.4 turbo is livelier than the Focus. The steering is quite light, but one gets used to that. The clutch is also very light and much smoother than the Mk3 (think I've mentioned that before). After a weekend away with it I got into the wife's Mk2.5 yesterday to move it and everything felt really heavy.

It's a 1.0 litre 3 cylinder turbo engine with 118 BHP and has a timing chain rather than a belt, but I can't see any Ford badges on it (thank god) 😉

Good choice, pretty bulletproof the good old Suzy’s!I like the V6 variant. You won’t have many issues with it

I had a lucky escape today, this was needed on me!IMG_20220824_115154456_HDR.thumb.jpg.a21f095aa2706ff6f7e5f2c140504abb.jpg

  • 5 weeks later...

Hi Phil3747

I bought a 2017 ecoboost 1.5 from cazoo in june, it was going great until 2 weeks later the engine over heated. Took it to the local halfords that checked it over (no leaks, faults) topped coolant up and said it was fine. 3 weeks later engine overheated again. This time i took it to a ford garage that pressure tested it and found a small leak into cylinder 4. Cazoo are paying for all the work including a hire car so cant fault their warranty at all. But im in the same boat.... will the engine be ok after the repair or is it time to change 🤔....

So how are they planning on repairing this ?

If its the gasket it can happen to ANY and ALL at anytime, if anywhere else i'd get rid as it will constanlty on my mind when will it go again, can you live with that constant nag ?

The garage has ordered the parts needed for the job and head will be skimmed.

Hi jamiejek...thanks for your reply and I have to say that I am currently having no regrets at having swapped to the Kona and just to confirm the above comments from others that faults can happy to any car at any time, my sister-in-law has a 2016 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 petrol and 3 weeks ago it started playing up on a return journey from the North-East and it now transpires that the timing chain has stretched (a common fault with this engine apparently) and they have been quoted £1500 to change it but they are waiting to see if Nissan will contribute towards the cost. I advised my bro to get shut but they are just waiting to see how Nissan respond before deciding what to do.
