I remember izal at school in the late 60's

Didn't realise diesel had gone up by 9p a litre round by me since I last filled up back in early sept. Gallon now £8.59. that in elec will get me 252miles at the 6.4 miles/kwh at 21.9p I'm paying   on my commute to and from work.

Well, the guinea pig electric car owner is still happy with his decision. Getting more than the official wltp figures on range. Can't say that for most ice vehicles. My daily commute to work and back is so quiet and comfortable , the acceleration is pretty impressive when required to overtake( no needing to change down a gear or autobox selecting the wrong ratio. ) Regen braking is a delight to use. Slow speed manouvering is very controlled . Tried my first go at public charging last night and that was so easy and quick. Probably only need to use public charging may be once every few months when going more than 200miles round trips. No regrets so far and all the toys / features work as intended. Only downside is my partner still needs to use her left foot thinking she driving her fiesta manual and stamps the brake pedal when parking up enabling me to get launched towards windscreen. Must say the seat belt did its job🤣🤣

Good to hear, I'm presuming you have one of those home chargers installed ? Or are simply just plugging it into the mains socket indoors?

Hope you keep the updates coming, Ian. Maybe even a separate thread somewhere for EV experiences? I'm sure many of us are very interested, even if EV doubters.

Lol, I've occasionally done the left foot thing when jumping into a "normal" auto without thinking - something to do with muscle memory. Just need to think about it first and keep that left foot tucked away.

Plug into mains socket at the moment. More than adequate for the time being. Just plug in at the weekend when I'm not using the car. Wired in a new socket so I knew it was going to draw current safely.  There's no heat generated at the plug socket or plug/ cable

Definitely interested in this.  I have a bit of a strange 'hobby' lately, watching people pull away from junctions or behind parked cars...  I'm amazed how many people are lurched backwards, as if they're not in any sort of control or expecting forward movement!  From my (admittedly small!) sample so far, EV seems to be even worse than auto for this.  I have wondered how much is just poor driving skills...  Does is creep on the brake out of interest?  Or do you have to touch the throttle to move from a standstill?  I definitely have more 'upwards' foot control on a clutch than downwards on a throttle, which is what made DSG with auto-hold quite unpleasant.

When I said about manouvering, I did that with you in mind.🤣

I'm driving this without over thinking really, but will drive it later and give more feedback on pulling away , creeping etc forwards and reverse. Did see a YouTube vid of a guy reversing up a gradient onto his drive with ease. I also find the suspension soaks up potholes better than my Mondeo or focus. Forgot to say, but for pulling away, the different drive modes makes the accelerator respond more or less .

Yes, like Tom I'm a bit wary of "creep" in autos or similar, no doubt due to unfamiliarity as much as anything. Virtually all manuals nowadays let you do slow manoeuvres on tickover just using the clutch, but you're never quite sure how much an auto will "creep" the first time you drive it. I've found VW group DSGs a bit unpredictable in that respect.

I've yet to drive a full EV but assume it won't move without some degree of "throttle".

And while I'm assuming, I assume your Ioniq is one of these:

Nice looking car, imo, and unlike a lot of these monster SUVs,  just like a normal car except it's electric!

Interesting. Looking at the spiel for a lot of these wall boxes, they don't seem to cut the charging time that much particularly if you are able to leave the car plugged in overnight or for the weekend.

Some wall box installers do give a warning about overloading/overheating a socket, but my understanding is the cars charging system senses what it's plugged into and won't draw more current than the capacity of the circuit. I wonder if that is a bit of a "frightener" to help sell the wall box?

Quite a few newish EVs around where I live. (I suspect they're company cars as most folk seem to be clinging on to their ageing ICEs for now.) Anyway, many of the EVe just seem to be plugged into extension leads from normal sockets and no-ones house has burned down yet.**

**Edit: come to think of it, one has, but nothing to do with an EV. Some clown lit a big garden fire next to a wooden fence which was adjacent to a wall covered in upvc cladding. You can guess the rest. The remains of the house had to be demolished and there's a new one on the site now called "Phoenix House"!😀

Just been having a look at the Ioniq.  I do quite like the interior...although they've also moved to a dash iPad in the facelift whereas it was integrated in the PFL.  Haven't had a saloon shaped daily since a Vectra C in 2013, I prefer boxy hatches, but the sweeping rear end looks ok.  Think they're out of my budget right now though, only full EV I could 'swap' the Focus for would be a Leaf.

Still getting good efficiency but that could be down to warm weather we are getting at the moment.

Good going Ian. There are also some impressive figures on the Ioniq forum:

I did have to think for a minute. 🤣

I've just been out and pulled off the drive so slowly I was hardly moving, all by the brakes and no accelerator. Same for reversing onto drive. Off the brakes and it rolled along 5miles an hour or so.

Yeah, free hour. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

There's definitely an extra hour tonight, most of us will spend it in bed.  Plug the car in overnight and it'll get an extra hours charge by the morning.   Won't get a free hour of electric though lol.

May get an extra hour of cheap rate on a Smart meter if they automatically adjust!  My old style meter just stays on GMT so I have to remember to plug things in an hour later during summer.

Cheeky! I was wondering how your results compared with the official claims, did a quick search and that forum came up in the results. Interesting, though.

Yeah, seems about the same as my results.

I've only driven one EV and it did creep.  Slow speed manoeuvring was one of the highlights for me - so incredibly smooth (and silent, of course).  No jerkiness at all, if that's what anyone is concerned about.

And no annoying stop/start system either!

But the only way to know if it's for you is to do a test drive.

Thats the main reason i've never upgraded to a more modern vehicle, it would constantly be in my mind of pulling up and it NOT engaging again. Those of us that have driven Automatics are aware of creep, less so once the choke come off. Just resting your foot on the brake negates this and shows that you are breaking or stopped to those behind.

shows that you are breaking

Why do so many people on here use 'breaking' instead of the correct 'braking'? Is it just a result of auto-complete on mobiles?
