I'd be interested to get your impressions after you've used it for a few days Ian. I was sorely tempted to go down that route before I bought the Suzy but the prices for a new one rather put me off and I'm hesitant about buying used until more data emerges about battery life.

And for a bit longer. It'll be very interesting to get some real life experiences from someone knowledgeable who can be counted on to give a forthright opinion, good or bad!

Well, it was a. Excellent drive home , quiet, comfortable, plenty of adjustment for 6ft3in of me. 6.1 miles per kwh, thats 3.59p a mile or  222miles to a gallon in old money.

Ok, the equivalent of diesel. 🤣🤣

6.1 miles per kwh,

That's pretty impressive Ian! Most road tests seem to record an average "economy" figure of around 3.5miles/kWh.

The ioniq and Tesla model 3 are the most efficient at energy usage out of all the electric cars out there. There is history of last 30 journeys on the display that shows consistent 5miles /kWh.  Yesterday's 6.1 was on 40 mile journey main roads with some steep hills and speeds from 40-65mph.

Will be interesting what I get on my daily commute to work as my Mondeo got minimum  75mpg regularly. Quoted range is 193 ,  not  fully charged mine yet but will do tonight and see how far it will go down to 10% and see what in  Reality I get. .

Been playing at warming the car up from the comfort on the sofa. App that communicates with car and can schedule heater/ air con as required. That with heated seats and steering wheel. I won't want to get out of car when I get to work.

Checked the state of health of the main battery and shows 100% after 2 years. All the cell voltages are identical which is good.

Crikey!, how does it check that? Surely it doesn't individually monitor over 100 cells?

That's the kind of potential game changer that puts many of us off being an "early adopter" of EVs. If I had to go for one in the next few years, I'd be more inclined to go for a lease or similar arrangement  rather than buy outright.

I wonder if they'll offer a 100 year warranty?😀

You've put your finger on the issue : the technology is still evolving quite rapidly so that a purchase made now rapidly becomes outdated, much as has been happening in the world of smartphones, tablets etc.

I don't think this will be limited to battery technology either. I would not be surprised to see similar advances in motor technology, such that they can be fitted directly into a hub, giving simple all-wheel drive and eliminating the need for gearboxes and ABS systems. The greater simplicity will reduce weight, giving increased range, and also reduce costs of construction and maintenance.

In the future our kids will look back and wonder how we put up with the complex mechanicals and dreadful emission control systems for so long.

There was a time not so long ago things that all things motoring wer'nt that complicated, and specialist tooling and parts wer'nt needed. Progress can be a good thing in certain circumstances.

Well I'm the guinea pig then and bought used ev . Time will tell if I did the right thing or not. Will update periodically with my experience day to day , real range compared to wltp. Wltp is 193, charged overnight on granny charger to get to 100% and now shows 205miles. The next few days will show how accurate this is.

🤣🤣205 i get that from £30.00 of petrol. as an aside and completely off topic am just 2 miles off 40,000

.... and that's one of the key points.  Ian gets that from 38kWh at say 34p = £12.92.

The other is that he's not belching fumes out his exhaust pipe (yes, I know there is some pollution somewhere else, but not so close to where people live, and some is from renewables).

True - but there comes a time where it makes sense to go for it if it suits you, even if you think there's something better just around the corner.

And despite what you say, 6 billion out of 8 billion of us have a smart phone (approx.).

More people in the world have access to a Smartphone than a toilet. 😮

Errrrm have you tried to use your smartphone as a toilet, tho some [iphone] do belong down there.

Personally I'd rather chuck my smartphone down the toilet. Biggest hindrance in society.

No idea how people would survive in todays world without one.

We even had some at the warehouse trying to claim it's a breach of human rights to not be allowed their phone on said person during their shift 🙄

There are plenty of crap apps available 😂

Not as a toilet...but I can't remember how we used to pass time there before smart phones came along!

It's a mad statistic though, shows how quickly technology can take over, even compared to basic sanitation.

Gloss paper no good if you run out of loo roll though!

My parents reminded me that toilet paper as we know it is a modern thing . They remember as children using cut up news paper and the toilet was outside . There was a company that announced that there toilet paper was now splinter free!! 🤣🤣🤣
