Is there any noticeable changes to sync with the 3.4.23188 update?

  • The car updated SYNC using WiFi, but I had to use usb to update the maps. It took a total of about 2 hours over 3 days of different journeys to complete. For the first time in four years of owning the

  • Well the rest of the gang have been running F11 for nearly 18 months 🤣

  • It will connect to WiFi with the engine off but it won’t usually stay on for long before it shuts off to save battery so updates can take a very long time or get stuck indefinitely

Yes there was a Maps 11.

When you finally get there, (up to date ) can you confirm that you can be connected to your home wi fi and the updates take place without the engine running or the ignition on please.

If it does this is something new to me. On your instructions it says vehicle does not need to be running, does this also mean ignition off. ( mine auto switches off after about 10 mins )

Sure. I managed it successfully few years ago, but it took a week! I was sitting in the car for a few minutes sometimes on the Wi-Fi throughout that week. Going by what Ford are saying there (it’s clear as mud) the car doesn’t need to be running , if they meant the ignition has to be on then they would say that 🧐 I’ll find out this evening. I did think it’s maybe updated some at the dealership over last weeks they’ve had the car. But no sign of an auto update yesterday or early today.

Chris, so that picture I posted , in a couple of hours sat on the drive ignition off, it’s progressed a little you’ll see on the progress bar. But iirc these updates have a lot of files. If I was in a hurry I’d usb it but I’m not so I’ll persevere.

Yes looks like updating. Keep us informed. That file is not part of the new downloads.

Will do.
I've not updated anything since September 2021 !
The file name does look familiar to me but I can’t remember why 😳  Also I’ve had automatic updates switched on all that time, it’s never even started to download anything until this one. 🤷‍♂️

Ok. That successfully downloaded the sync update overnight on my driveway. It’s now downloading something else , I think it will be maps 12. Not sure.

Yes the last picture is part of the map update. There are about 12 files it needs to do.

No wonder the batteries fail if it's awake and downloading overnight.

Thanks Alex.S and Alexp999,

Agreed that file is part of 18 files associated with maps 12.

Thanks for this info, Fords instructions are very vague, and if you ask a question its like Chinese wispers.

I have this time updated via USB and proved that you can stop and start, not needing to do a 3 hr trip to install the update.

This info, that you can update via wi fi without the engine going is even better news.

Thanks again. If you could post again upon completion and give us a rough idea of the time scale it will be helpful.

According to this the engine is not switched on. Agreed it must be consuming battery, but I would have thought that it was minimal to run a modem in the sync. However I have a C TEK stop/start charger that has a care function when fully charged. In future I will connect overnight and let the good times roll.( Download )

🧐 but the battery issues predate the downloading while ignition is off feature 🤔

That is good too. I remember having to go for a long drive previously. The 1.5 petrol is thirsty too.

Ah, didn't realise it was a new thing.  There'll be even more flat batteries now then.

I’m assuming it’s new. I done OTA sync update couple of years ago..took a week.

Maybe I missed something but this info wasn’t on the Ford website last time I was updating…

Sure previously on here there was people setting up hotspots to OTA download continuously.  I don’t think that worked.

I thought everything switched off after 30 minutes? So once you got out and locked up, it would still download for upto 30 minutes. That's what people used to say in here.

It’s possible. Mine started one day and was complete the next but I did leave and return to the house (Wi-Fi) a couple of times.

We await your answers Alex, I thought it turned off after 30 mins. Its just a pity a person from ford cannot put the instructions on a document. So we all know what is meant to happen. It cannot be that difficult. I cannot see that if the whole car switches off after 30 mins that a power supply to the modem in sync still exists.

Yes Sync 3.4.23188 would install in 2 x 30 min bursts, but the maps 12 (23.8 GiG ) would need at least 5 or 6 revisits to your wi fi with at least 30 mins between connections.

Comments please

I agree. Seems as soon as it successfully updated sync (in one day) it went straight onto map update.
This morning it’s made progress but seems to be on the same file as yesterday. However the sync update also showed progress on one particular file then next morning whole update was complete. IMG_0009.thumb.jpeg.cf217f8c49a531c2680cebd90a0c1ae1.jpeg

Further progress, onto another file….

HI. ALEX.S

Was that after leaving the car for more than the 30 mins (auto switch off )  during which time the last file was installing, and turning on again.

Yeah longer than 30mins. I’ve no idea what order the files are in. So could be 1 file done or could be more.

Anyone else found the voice stutter is even worse with this update than it was on the previous version? Mine is terrible
