  • The car updated SYNC using WiFi, but I had to use usb to update the maps. It took a total of about 2 hours over 3 days of different journeys to complete. For the first time in four years of owning the

  • Well the rest of the gang have been running F11 for nearly 18 months 🤣

  • It will connect to WiFi with the engine off but it won’t usually stay on for long before it shuts off to save battery so updates can take a very long time or get stuck indefinitely

How long have you been on the new version? It can take a bit of time for background maintenance and stuff to settle. I haven’t noticed any more stuttering than previous versions

Anyone else found the voice stutter is even worse with this update than it was on the previous version? Mine is terrible

My personal opinion is that the stutter is caused by something else. I had no stutter from the last update until a couple of months back and it was stuttering like crazy, installed latest update and the stuttering is gone again, but you have it.

Hello everyone.
Yesterday I updated my Kuga Sync 3 to the latest version via USB with no problems. On downloading the confirmation file to Ford it said there was a new map version available.

Today I tried to download the latest map to USB. I tried multiple times with no success. Each time after only seconds or a few minutes the download stopped with 'Network Connection Failed'. I tried it on both a Windows PC and a Mac with the same results. There appeared to be nothing wrong with my internet.

Why would this error keep coming up? I downloaded the Sync 3 update yesterday with no problem. Could it be a fault at Ford's end?

Note: Last year I did the Sync 3 plus map update with no problems.

Only a couple of days. I might do a master reset. Such a pain though, setting everything up again after. But, as you say, might be worth leaving it a bit to see if it improves

There you go fellas…. *edit about 3 days it took

Has it actually finished though? The map updates are made up of about a dozen files and the even just the first one, will probably make that say F12.

Is it downloading anything else?

No but it was searching as I got out the car. I thought once it says F12 that was it. I pressed the button to search for updates.

It needs to download about 23GB, that's the only reason I wondered. I expected it to take longer, but it could be finished.

Afaik, that F12 bit will change just with the first part of the map file.

I’d been checking ‘about sync’ throughout the download, it was saying F10 yesterday

It says software up to date then todays date and the exact time I got out the car at the shop.

Hi ALEX.S

So what we are saying is , Say you stopped and started twice a day for the last 3 days, with about 30 mins between, then the modem would have downloaded  about 6x 30mins  whilst connected to wi fi. About 3hrs then for Maps 12, approx the same as via a USB.

.XML files are obviously sent over wi fi as well to server. Only engine run required is to stop/start. The rest done during the period of the 30 min shut down, regardless of power off.

are my assumptions correct.

I think the 30 minute theory is probably right. What you say makes sense. Only thing that makes me wonder if there’s been a change at fords end (if that’s even possible) is what the Ford website says about not needing the ignition on while OTA updating. Afaik that information wasn’t on the website last time I updated 2021.

* “vehicle doesn’t need to be running”

Another thing, I’d think downloading from a USB stick would be a lot quicker than downloading from a fairly weak Wi-Fi signal 🧐

You’re right. It’s still downloading. I use Apple CarPlay, ford nav is just for backup.

Morning Chris

So ‘about sync’ already says F12. How will I know when it’s complete? Sync updates have a pop up screen telling me that’s complete. So waiting for same but ‘maps complete’ message?
Last map update I did was F10 USB method. Couple of years ago.

Have you not downloaded onto usb by now?  Or are you waiting to see how long mine takes OTA?

For all ye folks who have done the F12 maps update via USB, could you please let me know if:

a) I can turn the car off (and let the update resume the next time I turn the car on)?  - I don't want to do a long drive like I did for the F11 update

b) - edited and added: can I use android auto while doing this update?

c) I am assuming the sync updates dont touch any of the other modules (updated to 3.4 23188 last friday via usb, had no real issues, but this morning, android auto wouldn't work and the car wouldnt go on to high beam. It kept showing the high beam icon in the instrument cluster and kept "dipping" as we crossed other cars this morning, but wouldn't actually go on to high beam. Will try again later tonight and see if it is still an issue, but thought i'd check anyways.

Cheers all!

That's file 3 of 9 for the map data. You can tell because it is BCK, C denoting the third part. The 9th and last part is BJK (they don't use I)

The files which are named 4U5T-14G422-Bxx are the voice files, there are 4 of those.

Hi Hotzigetty

Confirm that my Maps 12 install took approx 21/2 Hrs via usb. I stopped and started 3 times during, so obviously picked up from where it started.

Each restart gave a top L/H corner of software update in progress, which is a good confidence booster.

Good luck. Please report back to help others.

Chris

So the 4U5T files (voice files..cheers Alex.p) I’ve definitely downloaded at least one of them.  Thanks Chris, I’ll be able to refer to that list for progress, the LU5T file , any idea what that is?
