So the 4U5T files (voice files..cheers Alex.p) I’ve definitely downloaded at least one of them.  Thanks Chris, I’ll be able to refer to that list for progress, the LU5T file , any idea what that is?

The LU5T renames the autoinstall on the USB. The HB5Ts check the correct hardware and software. GB5T is the xml generator. Your car shouldn’t download any of these via WiFi auto update

  • Well the rest of the gang have been running F11 for nearly 18 months 🤣

  • It will connect to WiFi with the engine off but it won’t usually stay on for long before it shuts off to save battery so updates can take a very long time or get stuck indefinitely

Doing mine from USB on Friday Bristol to Reading, then return on Saturday. I'll let you know!

Can I use Android Auto while it is updating? Want to keep an eye on Google maps for traffic.

I have a 2023 Fiesta ST Line X MHEV 1.0 Auto (Came off the production line 2 days before end of production !). I installed the latest sync update yesterday - it took less than 15 minutes and ford update site then allowed me to update maps to F12.

To begin with I had problems with getting the log file and trying to juggle the ignition was also a pain, so started again from scratch.

I downloaded the latest map again onto USB and plugged in. The update started straight away and I found I didnt need even the ignition on for the update to go to completion.  Halfway through, the Centre console screen turned off as well and I left it a while to see if it would affect the update.  It didnt, but I turned it on again in case I missed a message. Even getting out of the car without locking it didnt affect the update.(I had previously turned on the centre console display without turning on the ignition.

It took around 35 minutes to get to the first message about restarting as soon as possible  and then after the restart only  a couple of minutes to 'sync updated' and then 1 minute to get 'installation complete - Update will be made on next restart' (or words to that effect). I did the key recycle and at that point the log file was written to the USB stick etc.

Hope this is some use to others. I did use a USB stick with a light which flashed when data transfer was going on.

It takes about 2 hrs to install the map update.

Half an hour would suggest it’s either not the full map update or it’s not installed everything.

The car updated SYNC using WiFi, but I had to use usb to update the maps. It took a total of about 2 hours over 3 days of different journeys to complete. For the first time in four years of owning the car from new I am completely up to date!

Is that a screenshot from the website? Or the App ?

Still doing the update but can use android auto (unsure if it slows down the update or not). The top strip of the screen will be blocked by the "updating..." screen though..

First part done (took 1.5 hours), it told me part 1 was complete, turned itself off and on (Sync, not car!), chose a completely random track off my music USB, then said updating software again.

Back to Bristol today so that should finish part 2.

Trip back to Bristol finished it, all good, and XML file written - but the ford web page just waits and waits when I try to upload it, so I'll try again tomorrow.

On the return trip, I noticed that a new (2 years ago!) road is now on the map! No more driving through a field!!!

So part 1 took 1.5 hours, as did part 2.

UPDATE: Ford web wouldn't take the XML file (I had logged in with my user name, only got one car, it told me maps needed an update).

So I logged out, cleared cache, relogged in, it now shows my VIN, and likes the XML file!

I was pleased to see this announcement this morning.  I also see that Maps has updated from F10 to F12 ... no F11?!

Clearly I have totally failed as a gang member!!  Woe is me ... how did I manage with F10?  (Rather well, actually!)

A wee while ago I did check to see whether a SYNC update was proposed for my car and saw that it was.  When I selected "Click here to get latest version" I was told "Your SYNC update must be completed at a Ford Dealership" and "Charges may apply".  Pleased that despite this Ford have opted to update the car directly over Wifi ... no way would I have paid the dealer to do this!

Sync Update 1.jpg

PS: And note my F10 Maps were described as "UP TO DATE"!

New to the forum .... Just joined for something else - and spotted this thread. Went through the website and got the same message ( last time I looked about 6 months ago - everything was "up to date") - just kicked off a "check for updates" with car on the drive on wifi - it's downloading "stuff" - so will see where I end up.

Good to see the "dealer required" isn't just me and hopefully will sort itself out over the next few days.

Hi Paul, welcome to the Ford Owners Club 👍

I'm obviously not v tech savvy when it comes to SYNC 3.4 on my car ... thank goodness, for me, the update to 23188 happened automatically.  Most if not all the posts in this thread seem to be about the anguish of updating when the automatic process does not operate smoothly.

However I now want to know what improvements 23188 (specifically) has to offer me.  I've got MAPS F12 but that's no big deal as I rarely need SatNav - I was pleased to note that things such as My Favourite Places were not wiped out by the update.

But, returning to SYNC 3.4.23188, I've noticed no changes of any significance.  For example, I still can't change the rather dull and dated appearance of the display.  One's left wondering what the big deal is?!  Is the anguish worth it?

I went to http://support.ford.com for "more information on what this update contained" and couldn't find anything.  Please would someone point my nose in the right direction?  I'd just like a checklist.  Thanks.

Ford don't publish a changelog so it's only ever what the community notices.

The main thing for 23188 is that it fixed the rwdata partition becoming full and locking up the unit/reset settings. Which was introduced in 22251.

Part 1 of the f12 maps update done (while using android auto - took multiple drives of around 15-20 minutes). Will report once part 2 is done .

What is part one and two? Which files? I’m trying OTA it’s taking forever.
I’m currently on 1U5T-14G4...-BGK.tar.gz but have definitely done some if not all 4U5T files already

If it is downloading them in order, that's the last file of 9, for the map data.

There might still be another file or two for the voice files, depending on how it's downloading it.

On the USB, it does all 9 map data files first, then the 4 voice files after. But yours seems to have done a voice file earlier, so I'm not sure of the exact order OTA.

You’re cutting off one of the important digits

14G421 is map data. 14G422 is voice files.

There is a BDK for map and data and voice files.
