All season tyre recommendation

So do you find crossclimate 2 capable for sport driving?

driving fast is ONLY about reading the conditions and driver skill...

I once kept up with a Integrale Evo in a 900cc panda over 20 miles of fast B roads - whilst at times he was able to get away by doing 130 - he couldn't believe it when we got there together... (...admittedly I snapped a piston ring)

all cars will go round bends twice as fast as most car drivers think they can - with cross climates its not going to turn in as crisply.  And if you're a, I can't drive but think I can understeer merchant - the edges won't like the abuse as much as a summer tyre

compared to mine (400kg heavier on summer tyres), my fathers E class on cross climate 2s handles like a fast go-kart

So it steers nicely.

What about braking on wet?

...never noticed an issue

I think you are confusing the figures we see in comparison tests - those figures are driving at the very limit of whats possible - so where the right wet weather and road temps means a summer tyre out brakes it - that summer tyre will be 60% away from any normal driving conditions.  Whereas the terrible wet grip of cross climate 2 will be only 48% from the ragged edge

why all seasons work is in adverse conditions at low temps - under the same normal driving - the summer tyre will be only 10% away from killing you, whilst the all season is 80% away from killing you

and its those gaps that matter most of the time...  20% between tyres should be well inside the safety margin you aim to keep on a public road.... but the 70% gap in cold temps is way out the other side.... so in the summer you don't notice but in winter you will crash...

yes we still have serious issues if doing 80mph and the traffic is stopped dead... a great driver, wide awake, and focused with the perfect tyre for said conditions might just scuff the bumper, the wrong tyre for the conditions might pop an air bag, but the budget tyre is amputation every time...

as I suggested yesterday after 3 years on secure trustworthy winter tyres - my car on summer tyres has caused two massive close ones where it refused to stop even though I was going gently and braking very early - and lets not talk about a bend near me with a cattle grid... the car was normal over that in wet weather until I put on the manu approved summer tyres, and now it skips sideways and tries to kill you

I fear that unless you take the OP on a test drive with you, you'll be plagued infinitum with numerous banal questions which you have already answered! Still, it's your dime, you've a patience of a saint 🤣

The question is do drivers feel secure with 4 with crossclimate 2 under all conditions especially on wet?

Absolutely not. You should use tyres specially made just for the wet, crossclimate is just a compromise.

Bridgestone fours season weather control after less than three years (made in 2020).

Also some other parts are torn apart.

is there a problem?

Do you get a lot of heavy rain in your country ?

Yes especially in winter (only this year there wasnt so much rain and no snow).

Degrees -4C minimum in winter and 43C maximum in summer.

Average winter degrees 3-15C.

Average summer degrees 28-35C.

I think perhaps you should also be looking at snow tyres. The crossclimate 2 is not going to be very good in winter conditions.

That's a very wide temperature range to expect one type of tyre to cover.

You need to get two sets of wheels, then you can have winter tyres and summer tyres like they do in Finland

Yes it is not cheap to pay 1000E for winter and summer tyres. And every 4 years to pay so much.

There is not such comfort.

Also winter tyres during beginning of December and ending of February would propably suffer from warm conditions.

Sometimes, like this year, there is no snow or less.

Yes, it's caused by all the Hot Air talked by governments and climate alarmists. 🤣

https://www.tyrereviews.com/Compare/Kinergy-4S2-VS-CrossClimate-2.htm

Hankook kinergy 4s2 has very nice reviews also.

Anyway, thank you all for opinions.

I would get a set of 16" steelies and put winter tyres on and use in the winter and your alloys with summer tyres on in the summer.

Don't be blinded by brands, some of the Chinese tyres are very good for the cost, out performing the expensive branded tyres

  • Author

Maybe theoretically the best thing to do, but cant afford the cost.

Hankook and continental are overall best, but their treadware is not very high (500 - crossclimate is 600 or 650), so they will be worn fastly especially on very warm summer.

The cost saving over branded tyres, using Chinese tyres, with better or similar performance will pay for the wheels and the tyres

Prices here are not the same. So anything will be not very cheap. Also there is not such variety.

Our 2017 ST-Line had Conti Sports on, from factory.

They were rock hard, lasted only 15,000 miles and understeered like a pig

Renewal price was £180 each!

I fitted x4 Chinese "Accellera" at £50 each and it stuck to the road like glue (B wet rating, C for economy)
