Good evening I hope you dont mind my question it takes lots of research to find anything you are looking for. My question does the 2019 focus st have any wetbelts as it is described as a 2.3 ecoboost. I love ford's I grew up admiring them and the fact they always do sports better than anyone else. These wetbelts are a bit of a nightmare though and I am aware it's not only ford.

The Focus Mk4 and Mk4.5 Ecoboost engines have a timing chain and not a wet belt.

They have however, retained the small wet belt that drives the oil pump.

No oil pump belt on the 2.3. It is chain driven.

Driven by the crank in the first gen 2.3. Driven by the balance shaft on the 2nd gen which is used in the ST 2019 onwards.

This is the first gen engine. You can see the chain driving the oil pump from the crank. I’ll try and find something that shows the 2nd gen engine.

And, as said several times on here, "Ecoboost" is just a generic Ford term for any turbocharged petrol engine and can cover anything from a 1.0 triple to a 3.5 V6.

I haven't been able to find anything definitive yet.

Nothing to say it's not still chain on the gen 2, but it would be nice to confirm they didn't switch to a belt when they moved its location.

@iantt I don't suppose you know if it's still chain driven oil pump on the second gen 2.3 ecoboost used in the Focus ST? Same engine in the new Ranger and Bronco.

Yeah that’s where I got the info about the oil pump being moved but it doesn’t show the internal or if it’s still connected by chain to the balance shaft.

So from what I've found so far, the oil pump isn't even chain drive on the 2nd gen, the pump and balancer is a single assembly that is gear driven directly off the crankshaft:

Any idea why a balance shaft is needed on a 4 pot?

Its primary forces are balanced, but its secondary forces are not:

If you want to really nerd out on what the secondary forces are:
