chrisjpainter
Hey there, I think I have what seems to be an something of an inevitable problem, in that my Sat Nav says 'No GPS' in my Mk3 Focus. I was thinking of going down the after market route, as from what I've read a new one could just fail anyway. Now, here's where you have to speak in words of one syllable; the great mechanic of the south, I am not! Assuming I do go down the after market route: Which one do I need? I've typed my reg into eBay (It's a 12 plate) and it told me the one I thought would fit, wouldn't. Where does it connect? I'm thinking of putting it inside and behind the rear view mirror, but I've got no idea where the wire plugs in. Is it complicated hiding the wire inside the pillar trim? My display unit (below) is a Sony one, not Ford. Is this going to be a problem!? This might be an idiot's question, but is it going to do anything to the radio - DAB or otherwise?! If it's a choice between not having Sat Nav and not having TMS for the cricket, the Sat Nav's losing out! Any help would be much appreciated. Botus
you have sync 1.1 with the Ford upgraded Sony branded higher power amp that higher trim level cars came with - quite likely the GPS antenna got old and gave up (normal on many car brands) - you could likely sort for £15 on eBay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172860932580?i or upgrade with a lot of extra work to the ford units with the big screen like https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/226040924597? or - a nasty £200 chinese (last for 10 minutes, sound like an action-man from 1970s and spy on me GPS) headunit with lots more functionality but also lots more glitches and aggro https://www.erisin.co.uk/products/erisin-es4895f-9quot-ford-focus-android-90-car-radio-gps-dab-dvr-wifi-obd2-dtv-bluetooth-stereo-4g-p0067 or higher end https://xtrons.co.uk/ford
iantt
You can chuck the GPS antenna behind or to the side of the audio control module( the radio unit behind the facia) . Did that on mine when I installed the sat nav screen on my non sat nav 2013 zetec. Picked satellites fine.
chrisjpainter
That's really helpful; thank you very much. It seems like the after market job is the way to go. Anyone got an idiot's guide as to how to install it and where it plugs in!?
dontpannic
Fakra GPS antenna, plugs into the blue socket on the back of the little display screen. Plonk it somewhere behind the screen facing upwards for a view of the sky - should be all you need 🙂
