Dan62
You could try putting a bottle of radweld in the cooling system, not my preference but a cheap fix. or alternatively sounds like you need a new radiator. going cheap at screwfix if you have a trade counter nearby; http://www.screwfix.com/prods/43083/Van-Car-Accessories/Body-Repair/Holts-Radweld-250ml?cm_mmc=GoogleBase-_-Datafeed-_-Van%20and%20Car%20Accessories-_-Holts%20Radweld%20250ml
UK345
I hate to say this but i believe that the head gasket on your car may be on its way out. If it is loosing coolant fast then this is a tell tale sign. What to do is check that the hoses are all ok (no slits or anything) first of all, hopefully this is the problem and means you can just replace the hose with one out the scrappy. See when you remove the oil filler cap does it show traces of mayo contamation ?? Another test you can do is get someone to sit in the car revving it up and see if the coolant is !Removed! out the side of the engine block. Let me know your findings :)
grin factor
Sounds like you have a pin hole in the rad at the front - hence the steam in that area. Radweld has been mentioned which is good, but there is also other stuff too in Halfords.
