where is the metal sticking out and how big is it? getting a puncture repair is perfectly safe, and as its plugged from the inside its not going to go anywhere..

Its bang in the middle of the tread and is about 2mm^2 in area

If its in the middle of the tyre it should be repairable. the piece of metal i got stuck in my tyre on the last car was a considerable size and the garage still managed to repair it - tyre was only a few thousand miles old and was perfect until the day it wore out..

I got mine sorted at AD tyres for £7.50 - that included repair and balance etc..
