Paul Zetec-S
Ever since I first ever saw the orange ford focus advert years ago it has been my dream car. I currently have a 1.6 TDCi focus zetec s which is worth around £10000. I have recently found an orange ST in perfect condition. It is an 07 plate and has done only 12000 miles and has had one owner since new. It is for sale for around £8000. It is an ST-3 so has xenon lights, full leather recaro heated seats ect... I have no need to keep my 5 door car at the moment and a 3 door will suffice. It will also be nice to have the £2000 difference to go towards running the car over the next few years I'm tearing my hair out whether to go with head or heart. I would love to have that car outside my house. Anyone else gone from a more standard model to a sporty model such as an ST? Thankyou for your time Paul
raskL
yeah mate, a few years back in my boy racer days i started off with a fiesta, convinced myself it was too slow and ended up buying a type r civic, wich cost me all my wages just to insure haha :D not to mention tax/ fuel prices , had it for a year went straight back into a focus. its great fun and that but after about 6 months it becomes boring IMO and your sick of spending money on it. oh and btw if you want to sell it on while we are still in recision wich looks like a few years yet, no one will go near it youll have to hope for a private sale sorry if i weed on your bonfire abit but i certainly regreted buying one :D
artscot79
you are aware the st has a habit of snapping the timing belt tensioner in most cases at 25k miles leaving a 1300 pound rebuild cost add the single figure mpg price of fuel high road tax costs the fact they eat tyres and brake pads a friend of a friend had a green one and loved it for a month till the costs started mounting up then traded it in for a 12 plate focus edit that Timing belt failures on 5-cylinder 2.5 litre Volvo engine in Focus ST as early as 28,000 miles. Engine rebuilds cost around £6,000.
Lenny
The zetec s has the same side skirts and rear spoiler as the ST so you could purchase a duplex exhaust, front & rear bumper and the st pod all in for around £1500 fit a bigger intercooler for around £250 and get the car remapped for around £400 St alloys £500 so for a total estimate of around £2650. you would have an economical ST replca rinning 160BHP here are some parts as mentioned: Bigger Diesel Intercooler: http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=789 K&N Filter: http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1096 Duplex exhaust system: Part 1: http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=476 Part 2: http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=433 Part 3: http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=431 Remap TDCi http://www.european-parts.net/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=721 ST rear Bumper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-ST-08-onward-Genuine-NEW-Rear-Bumper-Primed-/120764200809?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c1e1b7769 ST front Bumper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ford-focus-st-front-bumper-09-plate-/320926467928?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4ab8b54758 ST Upper Grill http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Focus-ST-08-on-Genuine-NEW-Upper-Rad-Bumper-Grille-/110905544934?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item19d27c50e6 or the ST full kit: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-FOCUS-ST-BODY-KIT-BUMPER-SIDE-SKIRT-2008-2010-/221063484473?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3378691439 Better the Devil you know, i reckon and would save you alot of money on fuel in the long run ;)

Thankyou for your time Paul If you can afford it and run it mate then go for it ! Few if my mates got ST's and upgraded from Zetec's and Titaniums ! Never heard of any problems with the cars and they say totally awesome - personally I don't like the orange but the ST and especially ST3 ....... Paddy H
Id be much prouder and feel better if i had a Zetec and made it an ST replica, With an ST you can't really do much and even if you didn't want to it'd be boring after some time IMO. I do love my Zetec try much, i was going to buy an ST but for the money you pay on insurance / fuel / running, id happily bit by bit turn my little thing into the replica of the real thing. Thats just my opinion, with an ST i wouldn't really touch it much, With my Zetec 5dr i like slowly adding parts and building into this smart car. At the end il be like, yea i did that. Leemaxd
When I was looking around for a focus I test drove an st and it was amazing went like s**t off a shovel loved it to bits, but after a long hard think about it I went for the zetec s 1.8 tdci ,to be honest I am glad I did now due to the petrol prices and insurance costs. But at the end of the day it's totally up to you, your the one who has to pay for it. Good luck keep us informed :)
artscot79
making youre own rep sounds better you only need to look at the classifieds many st are under 25k most have had a few owners and knowing owners they are fast but so expensive to run and even more expensive to maintain the rep sounds good and cheaper

alkyz89
i would have got an st when i bought my focus there was an st for an extra £3k but my insurance quotes were ridiculous... they wanted over £3k lol so in total it was like a £6k difference

alkyz89
what mileage has you current car got... and what ear st have you seen?
gc88
I was going to get an st, loved it, but insurance wanted 4,500+ which I didnt want to pay! So I got the s instead with 900 for insurance and the car was 3k cheaper New too. ! If the st insurance was 2,000 , it would be a different story and I would probably have more points on my licence !
