Lost my 1.6 Zetec S the other night taken from outside my flat still in shock. Looks like they drilled the drivers door lock out, probably done in the early hours. So with Alarm (which I did not hear) dead locks and engine immobilizer they still got it. It was two years old 19500 miles had a lot of extras on it leather etc with my trade in cost £15269 any idea what I should expect to get from the insurance?

Look on autotrader, get a few prices for the same car with similar miles and age, if they offer you well below, refuse it!

You don't have to take their first offer, just have to say why you should get more and give examples.

i.e. here's one i found similar, with leather interior

Take a look at thisi t's happend a few times http://www.fordowner...a-metal-stolen/

On this thread there are some posts about fiestas being stollen whom all had keyless start fitted. This was one of the options that I had on my car would this make it easer for the car to be taken? seems strange, it's the not knowing how they do it gets to you. thanks for the replys.

Just rang Ford customer services, they told me that they are aware of the Watchdog program about the BMW's being stolen with keyless start and are working with other manufactures to make this system better. Well like the other chap who had his metal taken I won't be getting a car with keyless start again.

Think this is pretty common with Focus ST's too unfortunately. A few have been recovered quickly using the power of Facebook and spreading the word as quickly and as far as possible, but the keyless entry is a worry. There are guys on the STOC forum discussing this lately. Think they smash a window and use the OBD port. As you mention the BMW, I think they were talking about a similar blackspot in the ECU that allows the alarm, immobiliser etc to be over-ridden, think the 1-series was the car in question. Must be a heart-breaker to have it stolen.

As someone over there suggested, it's a problem that's never going away whilst the punishment is so minor in relation to the pay-off of stealing cars worth thousands. Guy over there pointed out that these are skilled (in their scummy field at least) people who probably just see a few weeks/months in the nick as free board with 3 meals a day in the company of like mided individuals. Not really a major deterrent is it?! A criminal record is hardly gonna affect their CV when they come out and apply to join another illegal institution of some sort!

Is definitely a good idea (I'm the guy in that thread whose car was stolen btw). The convenience of keyless entry/start doesn't come close to match up with the piece of mind I now have without this option. I would also recommend fitting a tracker system - the reduction in my insurance premium made having it fitted much less costly than I thought it would (and obviously the piece of mind it brings is invaluable).

Either way, I'm sorry to hear about your car. If you need any help/advice from someone who has been through it not so long ago, feel free to drop me a PM :)
