Guide To Installing A Reverse Parking Camera

figured out the problem now, its all down to power, what i had orignally done was wired the supply for the receiver in parallel to the cd player supply, this meant that when ever the cd player was on the receiver was giving the HU a input signal, hence why only a image would show up and you couldn't do anything else, once we realised this we knew we had to find a supply from a source that would be switched live, we couldn't find any, so we decided to try the reverse light, we found the wires behind the boot carpet on the side and spliced into there and boom everything working

so soldered everything back in and now works perfectly,

lesson learnt ... don't try cut corners, do the job properly in the first place haha :D

if our going to do this, but not started, no offence to the OP, but Lenny has also done a guide (useing the boot opener instead of the numberplate light) here :   I will be doing this

  • Mine has a total of 3 wires coming out of it mate (depending how you count em) One is a twin core red and black wire, that is'nt connected to the camera itself but to the led number plate light. Th

  • Bit of an update on the camera. I have added a bit more wiring, so it's now also wired to a switched live on ignition feed. So now the camera doesn't only have power when reverse gear is selected, b

Great guide brigante ,

Just received my rear cam and hope to follow your guide this weekend . Bought a 3.5 inch lcd screen to view it on . Have pulled that to pieces already and fitted it into a mondeo sunglasses holder . doesn't look to bad so far :)

Very nicely done custom installation, ingenious and practical indeed.

Well done there Sir.

agreed with clive, certainly a nice custom job you've come up with there

you should have less wiring too as it isnt going into a head unit

Thanks very much mate , pretty chuffed with it so far and sunglasses still fit.. bonus! . LCD has 2 inputs so am going to mount a front cam in the lower grille if all goes well .

i'm a noob at this here and don't want to hijack brigante's great thread on the cam install so will hopefully have a go at doing a guide when its all sorted .

Thanks again for the guide brig and the nice comment. it was a bit wafty cutting the roof lining!

yep , hoping that once I get the cam cable through the boot door that I can somehow drag it across the roof lining to the screen . Not sure how i'm going to route the cable front the front one yet though as I don't know where the bulkhead grommets are

I believe the grommet is under the passenger side footwell behind the internal Fusebox.

  • Author

why do you need do anything with the bulk head?

the wiring route should be a lot easier for you as your screens in the roof lining so the wire has no need to go into the footwell like with my route

instead you just need to follow my guide for actually mounting the camera to the tail gate n getting it into the car, then follow my wire route along the edge of the rooflining behind the door seals, b pillar etc

but when you get to the top of the passenger door way, you should be able to pull out your courtesy light and thread the wire from the door way across the roof lining and out through the hole in the middle then connect it to the screen

Cheers brig , will follow those routing instructions .

Stoney's right , I'm also going to mount a camera in the front grill and there's a grommet I need to go through behind the glovebox area

  • Author

Ah ok yup you'll need to do that then lol

Didnt realize you wanted to mount a front camera too

Its summin i've been meaning to do too

Just need to get round to getting the extra camera and sussing out a way of wiring it in cause i've only got one camera input on back of me headunit

Got the rear cam fitted and wired up , works really well .

Made a bit of a boob with the front cam lol! , fortunately I tested it before fitting and realised I bought a rear cam for the front so everything was back to front and no option on the lcd to reverse the image. So if your fitting a front cam look out for ones that say non-mirror. Oh we'll , egr valve plate and drl fog surrounds came today so got something else to play with this weekend :)

dunno if your still about here mate but i've just bought the same mondeo unit as you

how did you go about fitting it? like did it fit in easy enough cause i'm looking at it n thinking it'll be too long

did you cut the hole bigger straight back from the existing hole if you get what i mean? or did you have to cut the existing hole further forward to mount the unit further forward?

Still ere mate!

It's not too bad to fit but you gotta be careful..

You do need to do a bit of cutting . First I took the black 'back box' and light unit out of the sunglasses holder so you just have the grey plastic surround , next I took the old unit out of the headlining . Then I slid the front of the mondeo unit in place (think I had to open the front clips a bit) it needs to go as far forward as possible but be careful as i pushed a bit too hard and slightly creased my headlining.

Once I'd got that far then I just measured how far back I needed to cut and marked it on the headlining.

Be really careful when cutting as I had a loom taped right where the cuts go so have a feel about in there before you do.

The sunglasses end is a real tight fit as the headlining is too thick so it also needed a bit of the foam backing trimming down . If you don't trim enough off you can't clip the backbox back on the interior unit .

Hope that kinda makes sense and good luck . I think there was a great fiesta guide on here somewhere but I can't find it now

What car did you fit this on?

Cant find a camera that fits my car!

why cant i see any of your pics mate.could do with a hand

Cant find a camera that fits my car!

try find the one that closest fits, preferably bigger than you need, then you can just trim it to fit.

UPDATE-

I removed the stock light and cut a whole just big enough for the camera I ordered, I then melted the plastic around it so it became one piece (also had to trim the camera)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330659894130?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I believe that is the one I ordered.

Anyway now my camera is all fitted :) for some reaso it wouldnt work on my head unit so i ordered a separate screen.

I have since got replies from sellers and I have been told the nearest fit to my car is this camera-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/260900427232?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

So for anyone with the same car as mine it might be easier to order this one and see how well it fits!

Thanks guys

Some good advice here but has anyone fitted a similar camera to a Fiesta Mk 7 (2013). I can't see a straightforward way of routing the wire from the hatch down to the reversing light. I can see I will have to remove the hatch trim to get to the wiring but getting behind the hatch metalwork to reach the rubber conduit looks too difficult. My camera setup uses a wireless system so I don't need to reach the front of the car with wires. Any advice appreciated.
