Spot The Poor Vauxhall!

You've got to give it to the French though, they come up with interesting designs that Ford, Vauxhall or VW never would.

...I'm not entirely sure whether to laugh at your French dig, or to be shocked you lumped Ford into a category with Vauxhall and VW....

The French should stick to making wine & cheese . . . :)

In your opinion. French cars are now some of the best and reliable cars on the market.

Haha, best quote of the day.

I do like the design of the new Renaults. But French reliability is about as good as the Italians imo.

one of the guys at work was debating on a new car, I talked him into the SMAX, but in the end, he couldnt find the right one, and so he went for a C4 picasso. I am just waiting for him to have his troubles, and I will remind him he got the wrong car :p

Is it possible to mention the words French & Italian, in the same sentence as reliable, & be taken seriously . . . :(

Renault - 19.7 % owned by the socialist french government . . 'nuff said.

This year Renault was ranked 7th and Peugeot 10th for owner satisfaction. Ford was 25th below Fiat...

Now, before any of you decide you hate me even more and say I hate Ford...that isn't true, I wouldn't be here otherwise.

Just trying to change preconceptions that lots of people have about French car quality, which is higher than ever now. :)

I have indeed driven one and my mum has one...

By driven, i mean driven properly, real world driving - for months or years - not the odd 10 minutes or whatever on a private road.

The fact that your Mother owns one doesn't mean you do - does it ?

If I wanted reliability I'd buy Japanese.

My dad's 13 plate RCZ is nicely built (but then it is built by Magna Steyr in Austria and not Peugeot), however the bluetooth is flaky (despite numerous updates) and the aircon has decided to start working when it wants. It has also had DPF sensor faults (despite him doing the perfect journeys for a diesel).

I have never found customer satisfaction surveys to make much sense. By far the biggest influence on customer satisfaction is the dealer network which has nothing to do with the manufacturer as they are all franchises.

If you did customer satisfaction for Peugeot in my area it would be towards the bottom as every single dealer has been swallowed up by Westover, they also have the Renault franchise and loads of others. They are the most useless bunch of incompetent dealers I have ever come across. My dad has to travel 45-60mins to get to a more competent dealer not operated by Westover.

I think this is the reason Ford are disproportionately represented in surveys, they have by far the biggest dealer network, which means more chances of them being awful (and most of the big groups are). It is a bit like when articles/programs report that Aviva has the most complaints - well it will do, it has the most customers!

No but I'm involved in maintaining it and most other car duties. I just don't drive it.

It's an 8 year old Peugeot but it still goes well and hasn't fallen apart. More than can be said for our previous Audi.

There are two other Peugeots in our family and two other French cars, Al, are very pleased with them. Therefore that's why I like them.

Have you even owned anything else than Ford?

If I wanted reliability I'd buy Japanese.

I wouldn't.

My mum's brand new GT86 had to have a new clutch after less than 1000 miles!

Where is hate mentioned ? I doubt very much that any one here hates you.

The vast majority of members don't have preconceptions regarding French cars - just decades of unpleasant experiences

Are you intending to buy a French car as your first vehicle, when you pass you driving test ?

I wouldn't.

Every manufacturer has its faults, but on the whole Japanese tends to be quite good.

Yeah I know, just couldn't believe the clutch going so quickly.

Considering it's only a Toyota it is very well put together, she went from a 325CI and I'd say the build quality is just as good if not better.

Ha it was a joke really, nice to know I'm appreciated (if only a little)

I can understand why some have a dislike to them, I have the same attitude towards VAG cars. May try them again one day though.

My first choice is a MK3 Focus, and my dad seems to think it's a good choice for me. So it's looking hopeful. I would like to own a French car someday however.

I have to disagree, they are hideously unreliable.

I own a Peugeot 607 and everything on it is electrically operated. Everything electric has broken, although mechanically it is spot on.

My brother's old clio had windscrreen wiper issues, and on his new one the interior plastics are falling apart after only 40k

No i have not, and found no need to either.

None of my previous Fords have proven problematic - hence my loyalty to the brand.

I have however driven & test evaluated many cars over the last 37 years ranging from a Messerschmitt bubble car to a Ferrari - it is this knowledge & experience that i base my opinions & conclusions on - hard facts

Yes but the 607 is an old model and not one of Peugeots finest. There are many reports of 406s being exceptionally reliable, my aunts one and her current 407 both have been!

As it's been said, you get good and bad with every manufacturer, must have been what we had with VAG. (One burst into flames and one was rejected back to Audi)

Your mum has done a lot better with her Peugeot than my mum did with her 206:

  • Front suspension arms had to be replaced after less than 20k
  • Steering wheel started to perish after 20k
  • The backlight on the radio display failed
  • The gas struts in the tailgate had to be replaced
  • The paint was peeling off the underside of the bonnet
  • The rub strips on the doors started coming off
  • A coolant hose split (after Westover serviced it) and sprayed coolant all over the engine (which was fixed and replaced by our local Ford dealer :D )
  • The turbo was starting to whistle
  • The clutch howled on hills and heavy load, especially when cold.

Mind you it did have a DV6 in it.... lol.

Best selling cars in the U.K. so far in 2015

1) Ford Fiesta - 124,457

3) Ford Focus - 78,834

No French car in the top ten . .

I think these surveys are also based on dealership experiences and not a reflection of the vehicle only which may be why Ford rank so loe

It's the only peugeot I'd actually want to own. Hence I have one, 3.0 v6 petrol goes like something off a shovel!
