AJRTDDI
I was wondering what I can do about my starter. I'm using a RS turbo gearbox. The starter is blocked by the 2 part sump. Can the alloy be cut? Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app
AJRTDDI
I'm guessing it will be safe to cut off? Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app
stef123
I don't have any experience of the situation your talking about but perhaps we might be able to help if you could post up a picture?

FOCA
The more metal you take off, the weaker it gets, no-one knows how much you can take off - untill it breaks - if you could re-enforce it in some way that would help - i take it the starter clears the sump? AJRTDDI
Being as the cuts aren't by the bolts it shouldn't weaken it much ? Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app
AJRTDDI
I havnt cut it yet myself to see if the sump hits. Trial and error I guess. I have some welding todo first tomorrow so I'll find out in few days Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app
FOCA
Being as the cuts aren't by the bolts it shouldn't weaken it much ? Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app With these sort of things you have to be really careful/ must know what you are doing - The casting is designed with webs etc (the triangular shaped fins/ corner pieces) some of which have been cut off - that will weaken it, also, the smaller contact area can mean the block may flex realative to the g-box - looks like you have cut the boltholes off - unless i am missing something? Has this conversion been done before/ are there adaptor plates available? (for between the block and bell housing/ g-box)
AJRTDDI
As far as I'm aware the bottom bolt holes was used with 6 speed box. Maybe new holes are tarpered up higher for the rs box. Have the webs been added for strength or redesign of rear starter I do not know. The pictures are from another build. I currently have mine intact Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app

FOCA
See if you can find out how they did it in the other build, like if it is from a forum, join and contact the owner/ builder, they must have already have found solutions to these problems
AJRTDDI
It was from a website index page. They cut the marked parts on the pictures so I guess it's safe Sent from my HTC One X using Ford OC mobile app
