hi, I have bought myself a cheap obd2 scanner for my '03 fiesta mk6, have plugged it in, but it doesn't register an input, (scanner and com port settings are good, but the car side isn't talking)

am I being a dumb-!Removed!? is there a maintenance mode I should put the car in? do I need to do anything or is the scanner faulty? (it was only £9 so there is a good chance :P )

just wanted to ask you guys in the know before I try to get a refund.
