Confirmed...car is a Cat B write-off 😭

And to top it off...my favourite mug broke!  Made a coffee, heard a "plink" and coffee started pouring out of the side!

It's only about 10 years old!  Poundland special!!

To be honest I think I would nearly be more peed off with breaking my favourite 10 year old mug 🤔 😁

I don't like my ABS light staying on after a heavy braking incident yesterday.

Hopefully just something sticking. Focus is only used for the 5 minute commute so could be lack of use.

So sadly due to the ultra low emission zones which will extend out of Central London to the North and south circular in 2021 I sadly can't keep my car after then as I don't want to be charged £12.50 a day to drive it. Was planning on doing more upgrades but why do it if I have to keep it for about 2 years.

So in about 2 years might sell the car and get something different and not part of the ULEZ charge.

Was looking at an audi A3 1.8T. 50mpg, 8 secs to 60mph and £230 Road tax. Problem is the 1.8 turbo is hard to find and I'm thinking of getting the S line trim. There's one going for my sort of price and decent mileage at 107k however not my sort of colour. Screenshot_20180628-182103.thumb.png.5aad751d4950d7d3d3c25e67add6bb92.png

Today was looking at 3 series and was surprised on the prices. Seen this 320i M sport with just 113k. 50mpg like the audi, £250 Road tax and 9 secs to 60mph. The 320i and surprisingly the 325i are both not part of low emission zones. The 325i is 45mpg, £315 Road tax and 7 secs to 60mph which isn't bad. Screenshot_20180628-181907.thumb.png.e80432a927c27005b982ce2106421de6.png

Not sure on what ford I'd be able to get with that sort of performance and economy but I'm thinking aswell that as I'm building up more no claims and holding my licence for longer I could go for something German and insurance hopefully will be affordable in 2 years.

Well...I was all set to buy an E90 320d efficient dynamics today...  Until I came to insurance... ridiculously large increase over the Focus!!  I could understand if it was an M3, or even a 3 litre sport model...but it's just a 2.0 diesel in economy trim!!  So need to look at something else now lol.

How much were you quoted? With the 320i and 325i I was quoted (saying I held my licence and have no claims an extra 2 years) was around £1200. If I said I got the car a year ago than recently the quote went down to £1104. Yeah still a little expensive but compared to a 1.8t audi it's just £200 more considering the 325i is a 2.5 litre.

Would cost an extra £200 to swap them for the remaining 9 months.  Works out about £750 the year.  Focus was £450 the year which is more than enough.  I was paying £350 the year for a 6 year old top spec 150bhp Vectra a few years ago.  Insurance prices are just daft now.  What I don't understand though, is that I could swap the Focus for the A3 (also a 2.0 diesel) for just £20, or a Golf GTi for just £50...  Only thing I can think is that rear wheel drive beemers get crashed as soon as there's a drop of rain so the Audis and Golfs are 'safer' in that respect.

I couldn't afford to drive if I was starting out now, I can't see how any young people do it paying thousands a year!

Lol some young people just work whilst staying in their parents house so they can spend money on their car. Personally I'd save up for a deposit for a house before I get an expensive car. I wish I was getting quotes like you. Hopefully I'll get my 3rd years no claims very soon. I was getting quotes of £1800 for the audi if I was wanting to get it insured now but drops to nearly £930 in 2 years time when I'm planning to change my car due to the emission zones.

I found mileage, when you bought the car, and policy start date to effect insurance. I said I do around 2500 miles but I found its cheaper saying I'm doing 4000 miles a year. Only explanation I can think is that insurers think that you don't have much experience on the road doing little mileage so more likely to crash compared to someone doing more mileage. I'd think doing less mileage puts you less at risk of having an accident.

It's also with stating when you bought the car. It looks like prices are cheaper if you say you bought the car a year ago than recently. Probably insurers think as its new to you your not used to it after a year. I found putting the policy stating date from 5 days time to be cheaper but only just by £2 - 4.

The trouble with doing future quotes like that is the prices are always going up.

Purchase date definitely makes a difference, as you say the longer you've owned it the more experience you're likely to have in it, but it's not something that can be helped when changing cars lol.  I do fairly low mileage these days and put around 6000, never thought about increasing it though, will see if that makes a difference in future.

Seems my car uses a new refrigerant that neither the supplying dealer nor my local dealer have the equipment/gas for yet. 😭

The AC is not working. Dealer reckons Ford didn't put enough gas in at the factory.

Even if it's a different fault they'll need it to refill it....

I'm sure there was the same issue with another Ford recently, might have been the Mk3 Focus's when they first came out?  Ford saved a few pence on each car by not putting enough AC gas in...then had to refill loads of them under warranty so lost out anyway! At least that was the normal gas though, I would be unbelievably annoyed in your position having bought a brand new car in the height of summer without working air con and no quick fix.

That's not good then. We not had any not working so far.

I can see alot of cars in a few years with Aircon not working due to the cost of a regas.

I certainly don't like some little gobshite nicking a bit of trim off the Kuga last night.

Can't find any cheap used ones online so maybe they just didn't want to pay £50 for one from Ford

Could search a breakers and see if they have it. Can't see that piece getting damaged from where it's placed on the car.

It's a bit to warm at work today indoors
