Things I Don't Like

Featured Replies

Another bathroom fault this week...

Extractor fan is taking longer to start each day.  Was about 10 seconds yesterday, now 30+ seconds today.

Used to be instant.  Can't really understand what can cause this extra delay?  Not just dust surely?

It's only a couple of years old.  Had to be fitted to meet current electrical regs during an assessment that the government decided every rental tenant has to be forced through now.

Tom, my house built over 30 years ago was subject to same regs (private dwelling). My downstairs loo fan stopped working over 15 years ago, still on my 'todo' list, don't miss it 🤣

I bet anyone visiting your house just after you've been does🤣

The regs changed recently.  The fully working 20 year old fan had to be replaced with a new one for some reason.

And as above, I definitely find it useful!

Well, makes a change from seeing an EV catch fire... 😂

I don't like having to have a contractor in today to do various repairs to my flat (some of which I've been telling the landlord about for 2 years).
I think he will be here most of the day as there's quite a list of jobs to do. Some will be done in minutes, some will take much longer.
It also means that I have to move furniture around to give them access to areas they need (windows, worktops etc).

Leaving the plumbers forum for a moment and back to automotive topics -

People that sit in the car (I'm thinking of car parks here) and leave their headlights on when parked, dazzling anyone opposite, particularly newer cars with blinding LED lights.  Probably leaving the engine running.

(morphed from my other reply on another topic).

Over kill on the plastic bag front.

Excess/inappropriate packaging is a big gripe of mine. I've had similar sized actual product delivered in a massive cardboard box full of air bags, bubble wrap or polystyrene pellets which I then had to get to recycling.

On the other hand I've had light bulbs stuffed through the letter box in a jiffy bag. Grrr!

I still think this one that I posted before must get the prize, it was only for one pair of Wiper blades😄DSC_0975.JPG

This is its every vehicle pretty much. We do reuse the bigger plastic bags as big bin liners so at least used again. But not 200 a day. Some vehicles have plastic covering the roof and bonnet that get binned. So much waste.

After seeing Jimps water bill discount in the other thread it reminded me of my own bill last week.

Apparently I've been using 20 litres less per day over the past year...and that amounts to a 15% bill increase forecast for next year.

Stinker! 😂

Royal Mail postman who put my parcel into a communal black bin....after I've gone on-line and requested delivery to my local post office.

Hard to believe but true.

Strange that, my bathroom fan has also packed up. Is wired to come on with the light fitting but became intermittent and now stopped completely 😕

Mine still comes on eventually at the moment, can be anything from 2 to 5 minutes delay.  But now always stops immediately when the light is switched off.  Used to continue for about 2 minutes after switch-off.  So I don't think it'll last much longer before not coming on at all.  Will need to be replaced again for the next electrical inspection, but I hope to have moved before then.

I've bought 3 of this particular one over the last 12 years. Does a good job when working, not too much hassle to fit. I'm not sure how long I should expect these to last but I've seen much older fans still working in other properties.

Lower end of the available price range so I shouldn't be expecting too much.

I understood that is a function of the way it is connected. On replacing one some years back, the electrician asked me if I wanted an immediate switch off, or a delay as it depended on which of the connectors he applied the power supply to...

Main land UK building regulations (possibly different for NI) now states that for bathrooms and toilets the extractor fan must run on after the light is turned off. There is a calculation on the minimum overrun time based on the volume of the room and the extraction volume of the fan.

The overrun time on older fans was typically 2 - 3 minutes and was not adjustable. New fans meeting the latest building regulations are adjustable between 90 seconds and at least 10 minutes.

Mines on all the time on trickle speed unless light, humidity increase then fan increases speed.

Have just replaced my bathroom fan for one that’s on continuous trickle and boost on rise of humidity. Has made a big difference to the amount of condensation forming on the wc cistern.

I must start using my reading glasses. I thought you said "Mines on all the time on tinkle speed" 🤣

As one gets older, the tinkle speed does significantly reduce LOL
