Things I Don't Like

To my knowledge no tumble dryer locks its doors in a cycle. There was a reason but it escapes me. I've a Bush condenser type only a year old and it's door doesn't lock.

Thanks Vlad.  Hopefully they're all still the same then.

I never understood why the old washer dryer locked itself during a 'dry only' cycle.  It could also only be set for 3 hours, 1 hour or 40 mins which seemed like odd choices.

OMG I remember those dryers. I've handled 000's of them. You've done more than exceptionally well keeping hold of that.

It was part of the batch that HotPoint 'modified' in after sales when they use to burn homes down in 2016. During the mod, the guy did comment it's the cleanest dryer he's ever worked on LOL I'm fastidious, the filter get cleaned after every use, and the filter holder in the chassis gets vacuumed every month - not that I'm fussy 😂

My dryer is now 12 years old, but no, the door doesn't lock, and it's predecessor never locked either. Can't imagine why it would lock other than to stop a warm fluffy towel to drop on you! LOL Oh, as for 'programs', I haven't shifted that dial since new!

Seems that there are some tumble dryers with locks but they have to be enabled, basically to stop kids from climbing in and setting it off!

Hmm, I think that's just a control panel lock, like a mobile phone PIN.  Not actually locking the door. 🤔

Damn meerkats!  Starting to wonder if they can be trusted to run an insurance company now. 😮

BMW drivers

Totally agree. I was one for 3 months, 530iSE. It tried to kill me twice and ended up turning its automatic transmission into a bucket of grey sludge as it exploded on the A1 next to the Metro Centre Gateshead and lifted me 2 feet off the road slamming me into limp mode and making me amazingly popular with many Geordies. Was in a Ford Focus Ghia 1.8 a week later. Had her 15 years. On the upside I have a totally legitimate reason for hating Beemers. (Oh and the inside of a G plate BMW had all the class of a cut in half wheelie bin that had been covered in glue and kicked through a Russian tractor scrapyard. Worst decision, car wise, I ever made.)

Not sure where to ask this and don't think it warrants an entire new thread on a car based forum...  Have any of you seen a small condensing tumble dryer recently?  I can only find small vented or large condensing.  I know the condenser unit will take up some space inside the casing, but thought they could still have been made a bit smaller along with a half sized drum.

Also anywhere else I should be looking for dryers other than the usual AO & Currys?  Must be condenser as I don't have the space to vent it.  And ideally a quiet model as it will have to go in my living/bedroom. :ermm:

Do you specifically need a tumble dryer or just a way to dry clothes indoors?

I use an airer with a dehumidifier shut in my bathroom in the winter.

Needs to be a tumble dryer.  I already have an airer but it doesn't dry things like towels or bedding quickly enough.  Ironically the only place I could put a dryer is where the airer currently stands in the main room, so I would have to tumble everything if I do get one.

Previous machine was a washer dryer combi and I moaned about that one taking 5+ hours to do a 'quick' wash followed by dry cycle for towels.  The replacement machine takes 8 hours to do a worse wash and with a slower spin (hence the longer dry as well).  Utter ***** but I didn't have any choice as the gap in my kitchen is too narrow to fit a standard machine and only one brand appears to make narrow ones.  I've ended up not being able to do my own laundry at all now.  Hoping that a separate dryer may give me some independence and dignity back if it can dry a towel load in an hour but I also fear that ship may have sailed now.

Next complaint...who put the condensate bottle down there!?

Assumed they'd all be at the top behind a false detergent drawer but it appears some are right on the floor!

I guess it works for people stacking them on top of a washing machine but didn't think many people do that in the UK?

I'm no expert but I would imagine that gravity might be the reason it's below the drum.

Yeah, they do all have a collector down there.  But most have a little bilge pump to pump it up to a removable bottle at the top so there's no need to get on the floor to empty it after every cycle.

I don't like that there has been a very serious collision on the road and junction right outside my flat.
It happened late last night and the road has been closed since.
Collision investigation are doing road condition tests (skid tests) and a recovery truck has arrived.

I just hope the parties involved are ok. The police usually only do those kinds of tests if it has been life changing or there has been a fatality (I hope not).

It's a very bad junction and there have been several crashes here. Some people use that stretch of road as a racetrack and often exceed the 30mph limit.

I wonder if liquid detergent is different nowadays.  I was considering some of the Persil Wonder Wash that Usain Bolt swears by (or is perhaps paid to advertise! 🤔 ) as I don't know if my current gel pod casings are breaking down quickly enough to use in the quickwash.  I really don't want to risk gumming anything up internally though.

Gel pod casings "gumming up"? This is bad news as the other night my wife was suggesting that we should switch to pods to reduce mess, and do away with the inevitable black mould that builds up in the conditioner section of the drawer. A compromise may be "Bold" - no gumming up and no seperate conditioner. BTW with our old Russell Hobbs I had to regularly dismantle and clean the water dispenser / drawer assembly as black mould used to clog the holes in the conditioner section causing a leak at the front of the machine. I've never tried liquid detergent but it may cause less erosion of the plastic parts in the drawer / dispenser - you know, that roughening of the surfaces that cannot be cleaned off.

Mike mentioned liquid detergents gumming up their machine 20+ years ago, so I wondered if they were different now, but no-one has confirmed either way.  I'd been using gel pods for the past 5 years without any gumming issues but doing at least one load at 60c/60 minutes per week.  My concern around gel casings was only doing short washes at 30c.

My detergent drawer doesn't get black mould, but seems to get some sort of bright red film across the top even when there's no detergent being put through it.  (I've never used additional softener.)  Not sure what the red is as it should only be 'clean' water going through there, though I suppose it isn't sealed so could be picking up bacteria/yeast/algae etc from the air to breed in there.

(As it happens, I haven't been able to use the new machine anyway, so detergent is longer a primary concern in my case)

We have a modernish Candy Grand Vita dryer - it has wireless and an "app" but the reservoir is enormous and yes - at floor level behind a plastic flap - poor design really.

Got caught on a fixed speed camera last week, so decided to do a  car quote with the 3 points added. Wow!! 40% increase compared to no points. Previous speeding 3 points made no difference over the years. Changed vehicle to my old Mondeo on the compare site and still the same 40% and same cost.

Hoping for an awareness course instead.🤣

We took the plunge (well, perhaps not a plunge but a splash) and bought some "Persil" 3 in 1 pods and tried them. What a revelation - they were not what I expected as they were soft and not hard. They gave great results at 40 degrees. We are converts now - no more dishing about with powder clumps or black mould and mess - not a bad result from a Ford car forum!

Anyone like to hazard a guess why there's 12 cameras on a short 2 mile stretch of road near where I live. Been there a few years now. Big brother is watching us.

Pay per metre?

Maybe to protect that expensive looking solar infrastructure from vandalism?
