Things I Don't Like

Main land UK building regulations (possibly different for NI) now states that for bathrooms and toilets the extractor fan must run on after the light is turned off. There is a calculation on the minimum overrun time based on the volume of the room and the extraction volume of the fan.

The overrun time on older fans was typically 2 - 3 minutes and was not adjustable. New fans meeting the latest building regulations are adjustable between 90 seconds and at least 10 minutes.

So f'ing depressing and disheartening to keep seeing people suffer with (wet belt) ecoboom issues.

Often youngsters, or just people without a lot of money to spend on cars, buying these vehicles in good faith only to be let down - with little hope of being able to fix them themselves or having to shell out a lot of money they can't really afford.

This, I don't like at all.

My driving hates:

  • People who sit at junctions and roundabouts waiting for the horizon to clear at each side before moving off.
  • 40 in a 50/60 limit.
  • Honda Jazz / Toyota Yaris drivers and their lost-toddler driving
  • The Nissan Juke (its the ugliest piece of vehicular satanism I have ever seen)
  • Groups of cyclists
  • Potholes
  • Tesla drivers - not on the roads, just when you're talking to them. They think they're saving the world!

I'm glad someone else has the same opinion of the Nissan Juke.  My son had one as a courtesy car and said it was cramped on the inside, big on the outside,  horrible to drive and hideous.   Why are they so popular?

Maybe they have a poor auto with  hesitant throttle response.  i've driven some of those.

Juke 4th best selling car in the UK this year. Plenty of people like them.

My partners sister had one, I quite liked it. The styling was quite innovative, and being a Japanese brand, was as reliable as a hammer & nails...

I never understand why sales are the method used to determine success.  Customers don't know whether they'll really like something until after they've bought it.  I think a lot of people buy the Juke just because it's built in the UK.

Must admit I am surprised the Puma is the best selling car this year.  Given the number of complaints on here, I doubt they're at the top of the satisfaction list!

I here Steve Wonder has had a few of them 🤣

It comes down to balancing reliability against what a car is like to own and drive. A car that may be reliable but you really hate driving it isn't the best way really.

At least one of our cars is on that list - the one we've had over 10 years:

PayPal "Honey" browser extension a scam ????????

@unofix If it is true, it is highly unethical. But even given Paypal's sometimes questionable ethics, its hard to believe that this kind of thing would come from the top of a multinational company, where the whole ethos of the company should be "avoid criminal activity at all costs". Will be interesting to see what happens with this - who authorised it etc, or was it a few rogue employees or infiltration by criminals.

I haven't watched all the Video and maybe I can't fully not appreciate all that is going on but I'm starting to not fully trust PayPal.

I was going to buy something online the other day using PayPal and a pop-up appeared that wanted me to authorise the seller to keep my PayPal account details so that they could take money from it whenever they wanted without me providing my details again.

This was a seller that I probably would never buy from again, so needless to say I bought from someone else. Maybe it was a scam, I don't know.

I have done 2 x recent purchases on the TurtleWax online web site. Both occasions I had the devils own job putting the sale through due to 'verification' issues. Using LapTop it said it didn't recognise me, and further checks were needed. It then showed onscreen a QR code, but the code only lasted a second before disappearing.

Took me many attempts to capture the code on my phone, where it opened up a PayPal verification link, that then proceeded to open my camera so I could take a selfie. That took an age as the 'oval' frame kept fading. Eventually it took a photo then told me I was verified, and to go back to my laptop.

I have had PayPal 20+ years, no issues, and use it 20+ times in the last few weeks, no issues with any other seller. Don't think I'll be back to TurtleWax, far too much hassle...

I haven't had that before and would have voted with my feet like you did as well.

@Tizer

  • When website 1 sells you a product, then refers you to website 2 to make the purchase, your internet browser keeps a file of the transaction so that website 2 can pay website 1 a commission.  This is called an affiliate link.
  • Website 2 then uses paypal to collect the money and complete the transaction
  • It's alleged that the Honey browser extension is replacing the affiliate links so that Paypal gets paid instead of website 1

Basically it's stealing money.

Money off coupons via Microsoft Edge often pop up when I'm buying something, I'm not sure if that is a similar money making scam or not.

The words Microsoft and scam are the same are they not ? 🤔

I don't like yesterday!!! The most eventful yet non eventful day I've had in quite a while!

I'll start at the beginning. As part of a general health MOT in the summer I had a PSA check done and the results came back a wee bit high so I was sent for a retest, this came back higher than the first so I was sent for a third which came back even higher!

It was decided that I go for an MRI scan just to check that there's nothing untoward going on. Problem is that Orkney doesn't have a full time MRI scanner so appointments are made for a hospital in Aberdeen. It's not uncommon and it's something we put up with living here. Flights are organised and paid for by NHS Orkney.

Turned up at airport yesterday morning after a pretty much sleepless night at 7.45, checked in and then I noticed that my flight was slightly delayed, again no big hassle, we're used to it.

Plane left about 45 minutes late but made good time down to Aberdeen so wasn't too worried until we circled Aberdeen and the pilot came on over the intercom and said that we were having to circle because of fog at Aberdeen airport! We could see that there was just one wee patch of fog directly over the airport! We circled a couple of times and the pilot came back on to say that due to low fuel we had to divert to Inverness.

We landed in Inverness and the first plan was to refuel and try to land in Aberdeen but this was quickly changed to disembarkment and taxis.

Meanwhile I had to cancel my appointment and I also had a call from the travel department in our hospital asking if I would need transport back from the hospital, which obviously I didn't. I had also checked on my phone if there were any flights from Inverness to Kirkwall today but there wasn't any listed so in a taxi to Aberdeen airport it was.

2 hours in a taxi later arrived at Aberdeen airport. I went and checked in for my return flight and asked for a meal voucher as arrival was more than 2 hours after scheduled landing, to be told that Inverness should have given us vouchers! She did however have a spare voucher in her book which I got.

By this time I noticed that the return flight was also running late by about an hour.

I also noticed that by now Inverness airport were showing a flight to Orkney which left about an hour after we had arrived there! I also found out that our flight was the only one that didn't get in, flights just before and just after got in ok and if ours had been on time it would have landed ok.

Waited around Aberdeen airport until our flight was called which was by this time nearly 2 hours behind schedule!

Flight home was uneventful but on the way out of the carpark, after putting the ticket in the barrier going out of the carpark the window of the Focus stuck halfway up! It's been getting slower and sometimes needed a hand to get to the top for a while but last night refused to go up more than halfway.

So to recap I think I flew around 360 miles, saw the inside of 3 airports, got driven 90 miles, arrived home 2 hours late, missed my appointment, and now I have to try and fix the window in the car!
