Vibe
Hello all, I'm new here to these forums, joined in the look out for stuff for my wife's mk7 fiesta and noticed you have sub forums. My grandad has a A reg Sierra xr4i 2.8 in his garage, been dry stored for 10 year, however it's also not been ran for those 10 years, my question is, what would I be looking at doing to get this running again? Also I recall it running on 4 star, which isn't available anymore or atleast no where local to me, what's my options fuel wise should I get it back on the road? Regards Vibe
MattDRX
Not much, sometimes the Valve seats can wear out as the lead protected them but tbh the old Fords are all you see on the roads from these days. Only difference in the fuel otherwise was the octane rating, 4* was near 100RON closest you can get is 99 and it's expensive, but give it a try, the tank will most likely need to be drained and aired out, fuel goes stagnant after a while and if it wasn't filled at the time probably has lots of condensation in it, so give it a drain, air it out, new oil and plugs etc, new battery and see if it starts. be warned though, it's an 80s Ford, the suspension has probably corroded through the floor by now, shocks will be knackered and the discs will be rotten and brake lines will need replacing, but if you take on a little project you'd have a very very rare car there, easy £10k's plus worth if it's in good nick, rust free and runs. Vibe
That sent half way through typing haha, I believe the shockers have already gone as this was the reason it went into storage as his back went and was unable to doe work, 10k though?! That's a lot ha ha
Goodkat
DON'T try to run it on super unleaded, if it is designed to run on leaded get some additive to put in the tank. If it hasn't been started for ten years I would turn the engine by hand first, if you plan on fixing it up. It is possible it is seized, and trying to start it could wreck the engine. By turning it by hand, it can be loosened up without expecting it to go straight to 1000 rpm. Otherwise, like mentioned before, give it a visual inspection, check all perishables, change all fluids, check for rust, etc. I would be tempted to see if you can get it started with care, if it is capable of running under it's own steam, if it starts, stops and drives fine and hasn't rusted in half get it in for an MOT and they will soon tell you what needs doing! Also, get some photos up... Would love to see it For your info, a scruffy onehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/231537076136?clk_rvr_id=817482363980&item=231537076136&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508&rmvSB=trueA pristine one:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/281626162583?clk_rvr_id=817501208203&item=281626162583&lgeo=1&vectorid=229508&rmvSB=true(Not affiliated with sellers)
Vibe
Well it's not pristine but was in great condition when he stored it, had a Shell replacement few years before going into garage assell, it's the silvery grey in colour with red pin stripe, just trying to think of its bottom half is black or colour coded

Paulkp
I ran a couple of 2.8i Capris in the '80s and can remember something about the cold start injector circuit, and unplugging the electrical connector but not any details. Try the XROC web site where there will be members with this engine http://www.xrstyle.co.uk/forums/index.php or the Capri Club Cannot help with exhaust.
