Broadwood
Hi everyone, I'm thinking of buying a 2010 Focus Ghia hatchback but I've been told some models of that era were treated for rust around the tailgate. Is this true? I thought rust was a thing of the past. I've owned many Fords and they've all been rust-free. Has anyone any experience of the problem affecting Focuses of this age and how do I tell if the work was done (I guess there'll be no rust!). Thanks everyone
Goodkat
Cars do still rust, but I haven't heard of a Mk2.5 going on the tailgate. Mk1s had issues and perhaps a few mk2. I have a 2009 Focus and have no rust issues on the tailgate if it helps, and mine is no garage queen Sent via the 'Clacks' GNU STP
Stoney871
The mk1 used to sometimes get a rust patch at the bottom of the glass due to a bit of a design flaw. It had a slight V in the channel under the glass where water would sit and not run off. Never heard of it on mk2/2.5 though.

jeebowhite
I have heard it in the 2.5, basically the rubber piping to the tailgate can rub against the paintwork when closed. If I recall correctly, someone had this on the forum, they had it repaired by ford, and they also added (for all intents and purposes) a small foam pad installed under the hose, so when the lid closed, the piping would rub against this and not the paintwork, eliminating the problem.
james_60
I have also heard of a mk2 and mk2.5 boot rusting, Where the Cable Boots rub on the rear of the boot lid and on the body See this post from 2011 http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/18826-2010-focus-16tdci-rusting/ Jamie
