The blanking plate is an extra item that fits between two existing parts, usually the EGR valve and the pipe from the exhuast. All existing parts, esp. ones with wires, will remain in place afterwards. The PCM will notice if the valve is removed, damaged or jamming, but on many cars, it does not notice if the pipe is blanked so there is no flow through it. Some newer cars do sense the flow, and will need a PCM update to allow the blanking to be done without triggering errors & the MIL lamp on. Tdci-Peter Posted June 11, 2016 Share Posted June 11, 2016 I got this info from an eBay seller's page, with an engine photo that matches your one closely. Looks like you have the Euro4, electrical version, so: "EURO 4 type has the motorized valve, and the eml will come on without a hole in " Also from them: "I also have a plate with a 10mm hole in, (made from stainless steel) so as not to have the engine management light come on in EURO4 models, (item #110906768445) If do not wish that to happen. But to get the best performance from your engine, or if your egr is playing up, fit the hole-less plate and ignore the light( it will not go into limp mode by fitting a plate, but there are other factors/ faults combined with the plate that could ) " I am not convinced about leaving the eml on, I think that it might be an MoT fail in itself now. So you either need the version with the hole, which will not give a lot of benefit, or a PCM modification, which is a fairly complex & potentially damaging operation best left to a specialist. Or just leave it alone if it is working, or replace it (2nd hand ones are quite cheap) if it is not working. The benefits of EGR removal are often overstated. I have tried my car with & without. When the EGR is fully working, there is hardly any noticeable difference. It is only if there is some malfunction that it becomes really noticeable. Try fitting it anyway, and see if it makes a difference, then remove it prior to making a decision as to whether to replace the EGR or re-programme the PCM. Damien Posted June 11, 2016 Share Posted June 11, 2016 Hi I have a focus 1.8 TDCI 2007 (57) i blanked mine off with a solid s/steel plate couple quid off eBay. dont unplug your egr it will give you fault codes leave it plugged in. on the egr you will see a shape the same as the blanking plate your manifold goes to the back of it loosen the two bolts slip your plate in between them both tighten up again. no faults should appear I didn't get any make sure you use s/steel as others will burn through and don't use one with hole in plate it's just pointless as your not blanking it off your still leaving space there.
