Is it possible to replace the cam in situ? I have read the engine need to come out to be turned over, but it seems there must be a way to retain the followers without. Has nayone had any success with magnets??

...I know its a difficult question but no one seems to know. Its a shame no ones tried it. So, its engine out !

Imo, it is quicker and easier to have the engine out, although not impossible to change in situ, it would be very time consuming and difficult, you could have it done in around 4 hours by taking it out, or around 2 days and a big struggle in place along with damage to the front panel, better to put the engine on a bench, then you can see everything to make sure it is all lined up

Yes I see, I agree. Would you do the cam timing in situ as I'll check that first?

I done mine when I had the engine on the bench, rotate it by hand a few times to double check
