AHHHHHHHHH!

You're letting all the heat out!!!!!!

The cold is getting into your house Keith!!!

AHHHH!

At that stage i wasn't particularly bothered as I had a nice warm coat, gloves and bobhat on. and had to clear the drive anyway.

Had about 2 more inches since I cleared the drive, so don't look like I'm going too far tomorrow.

The dog wasn't impressed either, frozen dingleberries on his chest.

Is that an aerial in the bottom right hand corner

well full blizzard conditions now north of scumdee where i am. already 4cm from past few days, now looking likely to cause real trouble. wifes car is now completely covered (she only got home 30mins ago)! sadly i have to pull out all the stops to get to work at 6am as i work in the intensive care unit 14miles away, nhs may need to rent some 4x4's to get the staff in if this keeps up lol!

Great pics Keith and Andy. My Fez is still stuck and it's snowing again! Appointments cancelled for this week at least, unfortunately that means public transport to the office :(

WHERE IS MY SNOW?!?!

I don't want anymore snow please :(

Right, my car is !Removed! terrible in this weather! About 2 inches of snow had fallen and it took me an hour to travel about three miles. The problem is that it wasn't the traffic that caused the delay it was my Fez! In the icy conditions it had no grip whatsoever. First gear - wheelspin with the mildest hint of throttle, ditto in second, third and fourth! Even when I was just bringing the clutch up in first with no throttle whatsoever the car was remaining stationary with the front wheels spinning slowly! Braking was even worse as the ABS becomes more of a hinderance than an aid and the handling was completely shot, it would just tramline through any existing tracks and then bite and grip dragging the car to the left or right at will. Made for a terrifying drive I tell you!

The major kick in the teeth was the fact that no-one else seemed to have these problems at all... I got overtaken by a vauxhall corsa going round a corner!

Then when I got home I couldn't get the car on the drive. Think the main problem must be the width of the 17" alloys, not driven a car in these conditions with tyres this wide before.

What tyres do you have on? My hankooks are terrible in the snow, I was slipping and sliding all over the place this morning!

They're Bridgestone Potenza's. Not sure how good they're supposed to be in these conditions but the Bridgestone Turanza's on my mk6 were fine.

My OH is on call tonight at the hospital, so I've gotta get here there. It's been snowing here all day, we have a good 7 inches now and the roads are starting to get a bit messy.

Going to take the Saxo to get her there tonight, it's much better in these conditions.

Well here in good ol sleepy Dorset we've had NO snow..... yet...... They are predicting it overnight, but I have a feeling it'll be bugger all if any. I'll take a piccy tomorrow for you if it does do anything.

I managed to pay some nice Polish chaps to wash it for me today, just to get grit and birds muck of it, I have had no time to do it myself and not sure I want to with the temp being around zero!!

One day I may get to wax it...... one day...... :( :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o

Did they use their trademark one bucket, 2 sponge method?

I reckon it's going to need some serious detailing to put right the damage they will have caused

Oh my god - your poor car Marky. You'd have been far better leaving it covered in crap than letting 'some nice polish chaps' 'clean' the car for you. <cold sweat>

Haha, yeah I was going to do it myself but every single jet wash is closed, the hand wash ones are the only places open and I didn't want to leave the birds muck on it for long, we appear to have a few hundred swallows sitting in the trees next to our house

They didn't spend too long sponging it mind as where I went it was snowing a bit, they just sprayed the car with soap and jet washed it mostly.

Anyway I kinda hope they will have washed my half coat of wax of for me, I also need to get some clay yet as well.

EDIT: I am considering the hire of a shotgun unless the birds pee off soon........ they will go once it gets warmer I've been told?

Yeah it is probably for the best that you kill them

Here in Bracknell I've got about an inch on the roof of the house. Car doesn't look too badly covered (yet!)

We have around 2 inches? enough to scare people. Hopefully Sainsburys will be a very, very quiet place to be tonight!

I think we're around the 4/5" mark here in Newcastle. Maybe more. Doesn't help one iota that my estate is just one big, ungritted hill.

Didn't read through all the posts here but there's a couple of things that seem to help me in the snow:

1 - Taking off in second gear. Not the best in usual circumstances and not the best for acceleration but it keeps the revs down and it's got my out of a few sticky spots this past week. I just find enough gas to get the bite of slowly see-saw on the pedals. Seems to help get traction and stop wheels spinning.

2 - Tapping the brakes lightly in small, short bursts rather than pressing down to avoid skidding. Kind of a super slow, manual ABS if you will. Trying to use the friction of the brake pads more to slow the car, rather than the (non-existent) road friction. Again, not sure if this will help anyone else but it seems to do well for me.

One final note, I'm delighted to see the number of BMWs that have failed epically in this weather. It sort of makes up for all the tailgaters over the years. I know it doesn't balance out that way but statistically I'm sure that 90% of BMW drivers deserve to be stuck.

Is that an aerial in the bottom right hand corner

Ha, yeah mate. Thats my bros punto completely covered!

Where abouts in Barnsley Andy?
