krisdadude
Shiit no way, thanks for the reply ronnie. Cant believe it, I presume you would have to keep replacing parts one after the other until the problem goes. Somebody mentioned hub assembly, would that not make sense to you? what are legs? Im not sure what the dealer I bought it off is going to do now, if he cant find the issue does he refund me? its been 4 months since i bought it
ronnie12342003
suspension legs. could be hubs or bearings i can make it wobble on axle stands but cannot pin point it to anything specific on any other car i would stake my life on it being balancing or buckled wheel or wheels

Definitly not the wheels Well there is a chance the new wheels are buckled, highly doubt it

krisdadude
How do you go about checking hub assembly? And is that likely to cause a wobble in the steering
iantt
need a dial guage to measure it.
krisdadude
With hub runout you would feel it under braking more than just motorway cruiding at 60-70mph 10 hours ago, iantt said:

It shouldn't be getting as hot as a brake disc and I can't see minor kerb bumps being enough to bend it?
iantt
Just shows how poor these techs are swapping bits all the time. No idea if you can't get a laptop to diagnose for you.

krisdadude
If the lefts bad does that mean the right can be and as tom said how does this happen?
krisdadude
So update! Massive improvement first 15 mins on motorway then started to wobble intermittently again, even through road surface changes the wobble stays consistent then disapears for a while then comes back for 3 mins then dissapears! The mechanic changed the left wheel hub including bearings obviously, im wondering if the right is shot also? what the fuuuk is goin on here? krisdadude
Still not fixed! Hubs changed out, including bearings 3rd set drive shafts in and loctight correctly as Ford instructed. Ford specialist said check diff?? Intermittent steering wheel wobble 60-80 fades in and out but not caused by road surface or wheels/tyres. Any thoughts? TomsFocus
I've got a really noisy diff, did wonder if it was that tbh. Also wondered if it's the steering rack as I get a notchy feel around the centre as well. Seem to remember there being issues with Focus racks. JONATHAN_11_80
My 2010 focus has always had a slight steering wheel wobble at 60-70 which disappears above 70mph, I have the front wheels balanced many times. However I recently fitted some decent branded tires and these have improved the wobble and the car is smoother aswell. I reckon the old front tyres which were a cheaper brand weren't balancing up correctly. The Tyre fitter commented on how many stick on weights there were on the front wheels. Personally I have always just put up with it thinking it was a balancing issue. Balancing issues always show up at certain speeds. If it comes and goes at different speeds it must be a wheel balancing issue. If it was the diff, the issue would be present all the time. All of the focuses I have owned had a noisy gearbox especially a slight whine in 4th gear and a whining in 1st when pulling away. This is an IB5 characteristic. This is an IB5 characteristic. Mines a pretty consistent diff whine tbh, not just specific gears. It's alright under load but as soon as you let off it whines and sounds like running a stick along a metal railing fence. There's also what I'd call a stiff bearing 'graunch' occasionally at speed on the nearside, doesn't seem to be the wheel bearing though so potentially diff bearing. Mines an MTX75 box being a diesel though, not the IB5 of the petrols.
krisdadude
As mentioned in other replies we have elimanated tyres and wheels being the cause of the issue by changing the wheels and tyres round. We have swapped the tyres and wheels from other cars, fitted brand new wheels, tried different tyres the issue stays constant. 60-80 intermittent wobble. Changed: Hubs Drive shafts wheels n tyres x3
JONATHAN_11_80
Sounds like like diff bearings I would drop the box and get the gearbox rebuilt rather than replacing with another which may have the same fault shortly afterwards. Whats the oil level and oil quality like in the box?
JONATHAN_11_80
Any signs of previous accident damage Kris seems like you have replaced most things which would cause this????

Not to my knowledge had the car for 5 months now. The car is with a specialist now, one has already ruled out the diff! Not sure how you rule this out without taking it apart? Steering rack cause it?
